whammy bar
Has anyone had any experience on putting a whammy bar with a tremolo system on a paul? would any of you consider that a sin? hehe. I always wanted to know how a les paul would respond to that. Does it rock? does it suck? hard to keep strings in tune? etc..

Re: whammy bar
(Am I the only one who groans at the term Whammy bar? maybe i'm just old)
Anyway. Many consider it a sin. Mine has a stock one from the 80's (a Kahler basically) and to be honest I wouldn't do that again. It does rock, but it can be a pain the backside too. The arm tends to get in the way if you use your volume knobs a lot (a strat doesn't have this problem). It also can be a pain to tune. Mine stays in tune just fine, it's just those string changes that take a whole lot more time. Anyway thats my two cents. |

Re: whammy bar
I've never been fond of whammy bars, but sometimes I wish that I had one for an extra touch. They can be really annoying though. Thanks for the advice.

Re: whammy bar
Yeah, but those are Floyds. MUCH extensive routing is required to install one of those! At least a Bigsby only requires a few small holes.

Re: whammy bar
Listen to anything by Brian Setzer. He uses the Bigsby for very subtle, tasteful changes in pitch. No severe divebombing with a Bigsby. The design won't allow for much more than a semitone difference.
