Turning Down Large Post Metric Bridge Posts?

Hmmmm, hate this Epi bridge, want to add Nashville of ABR without dowling and redrilling the bridge post inserts, so...

...anyone ever turn down a large post metric thumb post to the ABR hole diameter (.175" diameter)?

Thanks...

Re: Turning Down Large Post Metric Bridge Posts?

would the stud spacing work, I have thought of doing this as well.

I want to go to ABR1 instead of Nashville though, so I may have to plug and drill.

Re: Turning Down Large Post Metric Bridge Posts?

Large post spacing (2.913) appears close enough for either Nashville (2.930", as the Nashville bridge has a tapered hole with lots of wiggle room) or Gotoh Standard Post ABR (2.913"), or ABR-1 (2.900").

The problem will be losing the plating on the top of the post during machining, so perhaps the Gotoh Standard Post ABR or ABR-1 will actually work better as the bridge holes aren't tapered, so the post doesn't have to be as high etc. It'll cost around $80 to strip it and re-plate so it's not worth it IMO.

I'm going to turn some down today and slap on a 60's ABR as a test, so we'll see...

Re: Turning Down Large Post Metric Bridge Posts?

Hmmm, I just noticed that these specs from StewMac aren't accurate in all cases. I measured some Nashville studs/posts, and some ABR's and there's some variation, so I've decided to order the small-post Gotoh TOM from StewMac, and measure it when it gets here prior to turning down the large post post-thumbwheel, just to be safe.

So, that means it'll be next week before I do it...

Re: Turning Down Large Post Metric Bridge Posts?

Gotoh's are the same as TonePros minus the set-screw.

I'm looking to change the look from the large post to the smaller Nashville or ABR sized post, without changing inserts and messing with the finish.

Re: Turning Down Large Post Metric Bridge Posts?

Turned down the Large Post Metric Thumbwheel's post to .160" today, and added an ABR post sized Gotoh Bridge (great improvement over Epi Bridge).

Easy, and the plating on the end even stayed put!
