how to burst??
i have a MIJ crestline les copy, bolt on neck ebony finish. i want to strip it and use it as my guinea pig. id like to refret it, dress it and do all the electronics. most of all id like to go from ebony to a burst finish and i really could care less if i f*#k it up. i can strip it and start over. can anyone tell me the basics of the burst??? im not looking for a perfect finish just wont be satisfied till i at least try it once.

Re: how to burst??
well from watching some people do it, they start with the background a.k.a the most interior color and completely spray down the guitar then start out with the other colors, its really hard to put into worlds but try looking online.

Re: how to burst??
If it's "ebony", chances are you're not going to have a very flattering top that you would want to use any sort of translucent finish on.
I think your best bet is an opaque painted burst. I had to do something similar with this "Bengal" style paintjob ... Dino's Guitar Works I painted the yellow basecoat, then used posterboard templates of the front and backside of the body and taped them so they were suspended a couple inches above the body. Then I just sprayed my white burst from the sides allowing the overspray to sorta "fade" into the yellow. It worked out well for me.

Re: how to burst??
There are a number of different ways you can go when shooting a burst. Here's how I did it on a recent project (see Post #56 in this thread): Less Tall Octave Guitar!

Re: how to burst??
that bengal looks came out awesome dino amazing. i think pinefd's meathod (rattlecans) coupled with the posterboard meathod may just be the way to go on mine. it's my first try at it so itll be a good learning experience. thanks again.
