Do you mean like Fender Mist & Wipe Finish Enhancer or any type of mist in a bottle? I have plenty of those so I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Re: Sanded the back of the neck of my Classic

i posted a thread in the Luthier's Corner but i figured id tag it on to this thread as well because it might get seen more... anyways when I sanded my neck I left a thin strip of lacquer on the edges of the neck for the binding and a little past it and was wondering if anyone knew if there would be any adverse affects to going ahead and sanding the lacquer off the entire neck, binding included so its all uniform and smooth/absent of the lacquer? If anyone knows please do tell because If its ok Id like to get started on it after I get off of work in a few hours. Any help is very much appreciated!

A quick question, how are you sanding out the laquer on the neck smoothly enough? because i have tried this before its really uneven when i try this.

like enough so it wont hit the paint, just enough to get through the laquer?

yes I use the Fender one, I also have an old bottle from Guild that I like a bit better. Test a few, see what works for you.

IMO when lacquer has hardened, with a good polish, it's going to be smoother than a sanded neck.

right, you can buff it with the steel wool and it will take a very small bit of lacquer off with out going all the way though, making the feel of the neck smoother

i beg to differ... my 03 classics neck, even when cleaned/polished/buffed still didnt compare to how fast it is now. ... this is because of the nitro finish IMO.... However, my Epi is Polly and when the neck is cleaned/polished/buffed i dont see a need to sand it.

Re: Sanded the back of the neck of my Classic

I really think the trick is finding the right polish with lacquer. My 01 R9's neck feels like glass.

Re: Sanded the back of the neck of my Classic

heres mine Roman did it since it was over for a setup.

LOVE IT.Feels way nicer and smoother.Looks great too i may do it to the whole guitar!According to Roman he said he used 400 grit to remove the gloss and steel wool to make it nice and smooth.

Re: Sanded the back of the neck of my Classic

im getting a new neck with no finish and i want to sand it down to shape it a bit more like the assymetrical 08' standard neck. what grit sandpaper should i start with since im not going through any type of finish and i want to change the shape of the neck. should i do the wet sanding too and end up with the 1000-1200 grit sand paper

id start out with 200, possibly a little lower depending on how you sand and just go easy with it because it will really take it down, youll be able to shape it rather quickly... then when you get the shape you like try going to 320 then 400 600 then 1000

i recommend taking some detailed pics of the neck before you start so you can stop once in a while and get a visual idea of how much you've taken off. also remember to wipe down the neck and run your hand over it/play it every so often to see how it feels because once its gone you cant put it back lol
