Looks nice. You might take the opportunity to roll the fingerboard a bit since you've gone this far with it (it doesn't look like you done it from the photos I've seen). A rolled board is really comfy. The fresh crisp edges kinda look out of place, too.

Re: First stages of aging my R8

wow looks great!

Can you explain you technique and materials for:

1. What did you use for the gritty rust gunk around the screws on pups, pickguard and other places?

2. What did you use to color the neck inlays and gibson logo.

Thanks

Nico, can you post a front-before after shot?? Also, can you tell us how many hours it took you to get to that final front view shot or still an ongoing process?!

Re: First stages of aging my R8

Are those DMC tunerbuttons?

The headstock is a bit too dirty and matte, like you damped a sponge with shoe polish all over it. But all in all awesome look!

O Brother, please don't tell me your one of those guys that thinks this stuff is all secret stuff...

There are many different ways to do this stuff and it's all over the web, It's not Rocket Science.
I thought you would like to share it with us, like most do since you went to the trouble of showing it.
I guess I was wrong.

Yeah, o know what you mean but after i gave it a day of thinking i like it as is, it goes very well with the over all look and many old guitars have a similar dull look, but with more checking, besides i am not done with the headstock, it has to look more beat up, but i will do it another time, cant rush this kind of things and the mind has to be relaxed.

This guitar has never seen any shoe polish.

yeah those are DMC´s.

Thanks.

If I was a guitar thief with OCDs and I came across this one without a case to keep it in, I think I'd be scared of contracting terminal diseases from the grunge on it. I mean that as a compliment, it looks absolutely fabulous now - old!

Very nice job! Love it! You are really into details.

Now: one question! I was wondering... What happens when an artificially aged guitar starts to age for real? Will the finish come off? Or will there be no more real checking?

Just wondering..

Really much appreciated guys, i really thought this was going to have the opposite reaction.

Here is another angle and i like it because it shows more details.

Thanks for asking and i do question this my self, so i´ll try to answer as honest as possible.

What i am doing, and this is in my own particular way, is faking the look of many years of
careless playing from bar to bar etc. this is the look i want.

But what will happen in the future, well i really don't know, but what i know is that if you find
a 50yo guitar that looks all dirty and stuff, you can always to a certain extent restore it to a
clean, shiny old guitar. So my guitar can always be cleaned and restored.

Even Tom Murphy does not know what will happen to all his relic guitars in the future. I have
not painted or repainted the guitar so it will age in the same way as others from 2001.
