Metal Guitar

long story short i have some access to a metal machine shop and i was wondering would it be possible to make a metal guitar (throwing practicality stuff such as weight out of the window) id figure you would probably machine the body and neck separate and have it be a bolt on (it could be one piece but then there would practically no way to adjust things) the only thing not metal would be the fret board and nut. spots for bridge, tailpeice, tuning posts could be machined in. would this be possible or once you plug it in would the whole thing go "live" and electrocute you when you touch it. maybe throw in some alumitones so it keeps its "edgyness"

You be the ginea pig.
They used to make metal necks for Kramers.
Insulate the body and shield it.

Re: Metal Guitar

more of a dirty look like this rust type look. maybe even take a blow torch to it to discolor the metal.

Re: Metal Guitar

Tokai did an aluminium bodied guitar called the Talbo back in the 80s. Or was it aluminum?

Re: Metal Guitar

If anyone remembers the hollow alluminum strats fender did a while back, they had originally apporached James Trussart, but he said he would only work in steel, so they did them elsewhere.
Just some trivia for you's

Re: Metal Guitar

i love that orange/brown rust color of the steeldevile i posted. it reminds me of an old trusty tool you find deep in your shed that gets the job done just right. and really and old trust guitar that gets the job done right is what all real players are really looking for.

Re: Metal Guitar

Hi,
I owned a Trussart Steelcaster Deluxe (Antique Copper finish) that I bought in NYC last year and it is an AMAZING guitar. To be honest, the look is what attracted me first, but don't let anyone tell you it is just a piece of art: It is a very polyvalent guitar, with great warm sounds (choose the HB in neck and SC in bridge format). I love it. Totally worth the price. It has character and personality. I have tried many guitars and own quite a few and the Trussart is among my favourites.

Re: Metal Guitar

Here is my Travis Bean. The aluminum neck runs thru the body with the pups and bridge screwed into the neck. The body is Koa and its weight is comparable to a LP.

a couple of questions
-can you post pics, especialy of the corners?
-where in NYC did you purchase it?
-and really warm sounding? i figured it would be a bit bright seeing its well... metal.

thanks in advanced. after seeing the steeldeville in that orange brown rustomatic (antique copper was my second favorite) i wanted to build one of my own. so i started this thread to see if it was possible, find out what a metal body would sound like, and what would the best way to do it.

i think im going to have the a traditional wood bolt on neck to an lp style body that will be machined from a solid piece of steel/aluminum. in the end it will be mostly hollow but i think it will be easier that way than with sheet metal.
