Joe Bonamassa Live from The Royal Albert Hall

I have just bought this DVD only last week and it hasn't been out of my DVD player since. What an amazing concert, what a player. Fantastic tone. His feel and phrasing is just spot on, so instinctive. The standouts for me are Sloe Gin, Happier Times, The Great Flood, Story of a Quarryman and Just Got Paid, which segues into the ending of Dazed and Confused.

He plays a range of guitars, mainly Gibsons, all pretty recent models, including 2 of his signature line, the oldest being a 99 Korina Flying V. Guest appearance by Eric Clapton on Further On Up The Road. It's a 2 DVD set, he does a brief intro explaining his love of guitar and the blues, and his genuine boyish enthusiasm is genuine and obvious. At the end of the 2nd DVD there is a 20 min segement where he talks through some of the songs performed and the impetus of those songs. A booklet is included which amongst other stuff lists his gear used in the concert. All in all a great package.

Has anyone else seen the DVD and what did you think of it?

I've got the DVD & the T shirt & think it's brilliant.....But then again I was there on the night 8 rows from the front !!
The sound mix wasn't good (lot of reverberation in the RAH) but I wouldn't have missed it for the world, it was a fantastic gig!

Steve.

You know something? I have never really given him a chance..I've heard a few Youtube clips and read about him but never made the plunge.

I'm going to buy this DVD next week as I'm on holiday and it will give me something to watch whilst the wife does her thing.

It looks like a great package and I like to watch as well as listen...I'll let you know!

It was a great DVD. I love his performance on The Ballad of John Henry. He brought out his Ernie Ball Music Man JP Baritone.

I don't think you will be disappointed. Joe makes things look really easy, which I guess is the mark of true talent.

A lucky guy Steve. I don't know if Joe has ever toured Down Under, but when he does I'll be right there.

It's hard to pick out individual songs when the whole performance is great, but yeah, the Ballad of John Henry was a great one. I did notice the Music Man Baritone. I must say I had no idea these existed til I read an interview with Joe about him using one in recording that song.

Do you have any details on baritone guitars, scale length, tuning etc? I hear about some metal bands tuning down to C or even B on guitars but that sounds like a nightmare to play. A baritone guitar seems a much better solution.

they usually have longer scales and require heavier strings. It is usually tuned B-B.

Re: Joe Bonamassa Live from The Royal Albert Hall

Well I finally got around to listening to his Royal Albert DVD and I have to say his playing and tone are fabulous!

I had only previously seen Youtube clips and his tone semed muddy but on the DVD it is stunning!
He has great feel and just plays enough outside of the Blues to keep it interesting. He also seems a real genuine guy who's still in love with it all.

This will get watched over and over.....
