Just like Zep, I don't get it, but with the Dead, I REALLY don't get it.

Zep I can see where they are coming from even if I don't always like the results. They did some good stuff, but not enough in my opinion to garner all the praise and hype.

Somebody has to start these wacky threads ehh?? .... I think Elvis is the most overrated performer of all time !!! He was a white guy who stole the black man's blues and made a fortune doing it !! While all the black blues guys he ripped off went starving !! ... White America couldn't accept the blues from the people who started it namely the blacks ! They had to have a big dumb white guy sell it to the country !!

Yup! You said it. The King was is overrated. Still, he brought music out of ethnic obscurity to the white masses. He filled a niche and was a product of his time.

I was never a Dead Head, and I didnt get the actual drawl to them either ,Jerry Garcia might have been a very articulate player, but he didnt in any way drive or inspire with any kinda wicked or sweet tone solos at the time they were big, they seemed sorta too countryfied electric folk with a dash of space

I like some of the vibe of the Dead, but I'm not a fan.

I never got the Nirvana thing... at the time anyway. Looking back I can see what went on there, and why it was so important, but at the time it just pissed me off.

I remember it very clearly. 1 day everyone was wearing neon colors, had hairspray and pointy guitars, and the next? BAM! like without any warning.. everybody was acting all depressed, with their hair hanging in their faces, wearing plaid, complaining about how guitar solos were overrated and that being an anti-rockstar was way cooler, even if you actually were a rockstar.

Thank GOD i still had GnR, ACDC and Metallica to get me through those trying times!!

Most overrated band currently? Fall Out Boy. I don't think anybody else on the radio annoys me more right now. Its just so mediocre. Doesn't anybody see it?

Oh definately! STP, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden... Those are 3 of my favorite bands. I just felt so oversaturated with Nirvana EVERYTHING... There were even kids in my high school who killed themselves after Kurt did.

I'm not a U2 fan at all either. I think its just Bono and his attitude that puts me off. He actually sat in on the G8 conference with world leaders and preached to them... HE'S A FUCKING ROCK SINGER... Not the Dali Lama. He's got some good things to say, but who he is and what he does doesn't lend credibility to his message.

Another overrated performer... Ozzy. I love the guy, but his stuff always felt a little cheezy to me. Musically, brilliant guitar work. Lyrically... ouch.

I don't mind some Pearl Jam songs, and I heard a new track off that movie soundtrack Eddie Vedder did, and I enjoyed it... but I won't go buy the album. Just not a fan.

Somebody who is extremely underrated though... Ray Lamontagne. That guy puts soul into everything he does.

Overrated... RHCP is a bit overrated. Good band, but when those guys talk in interviews, you'd swear they think they are like the Beatles of California or something... Flea is amazingly talented, but the rest of it sort of feels arrogant to me.

The dead sound like a bunch of p#&#&y's. I don't get the appeal. I guess if your higher than a kite anything will sound good.

The older U2 are total kill joys. I was watching their Chicago concert on HDnet, and it was freaking depressing. Save this and save that... just freaking play music I don't care what cause your pimping, jus tplay the music.

Nirvana, like it or not, are one of the more significant bands of the time. They single handedly changed the face of music for a number of years. I don't agree with what he did to himself, but the musically the catalog is solid. The unplugged show really showed his talents.

Flea is amazing, and a great actor, been showing up
in alot of movies,
there have been so many different guitarists in the band its
so many changes in sound.
Pearl Jams music is pretty good, Eddie just makes me nervous

Its true, but at the time I could not get into it. It just seemed so drastic of a change for reasons the fans didn't even comprehend.

Most kids got into Nirvana so they could mosh out some aggression. More than 80% of the fans at the time were into the music, not the lyrics, and Kurt was a brillian lyricist. I got sick of watching kids smack themselves silly at concerts because of that stuff.

I'm pretty sure tat when the wave first broke, Nirvana could have played 'Smells like Teen Spirit' for an entire 2 hour set and audience members would have mosh'ed themselves to death over it, not even listening to what the song was actually about. A song like 'In Bloom' is brilliantly written, but kids at the time didn't care.. they just headbanged and beat each other up over it.
