I know they are extremely successful but i can't stand the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger has the worst voice i have ever heard. How that band sold even a single record is beyond me. It's like Robin Williams in comedy. That man has never said a funny word in his life.

I'm not trying to turn them down I'm just saying they are kinda over rated. Like once my friend wore a Led Zeppelin shirt. Then I once went to his house and went on his laptop. Looked through his iTunes Library and there were no Led Zeppelin songs at all!

I think that every successful band goes through stages. The first few recordings they put out are great, get great response from the music lovers (notice I didnt say press), hype gets generated, they make money (some groups implode at this point), then few if any can ever regain that first initial burst of freshness that they were noted for. So the next recordings dont meet the expectations - Now they are overated.

Different groups spend different amounts of time throughout these stages. For example: Led Zep, IMO made 5 outstanding recordings for their "first stage", which is outstanding.... after that their output could not live up to the hype... but what a start!

the 60s, 70s, and 80s...were the best time for rock music. Its a shame that youngsters on the forum didn't have a chance to experience it...and all they know is grunge. If you grew up in the 80s and participated in the rock scene (whether in a band or going to clubs) the experience was unbelievable. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

The whole grunge thing of the 90s was bad news...rock music lost it's sparkle and fun. The 2000s are a little better but it hasn't gotten back to where it was during those three decades.

Those folks who were against the guitar hero were people who couldn't play worth a damn anyway and didn't want to put the hours in to get to that level. SHRED IS BACK AND IT IS HERE TO STAY!

Right now, rock is wandering aimlessly with no direction IMO. Which is creating a vacuum for all these new genres of music to evolve. The 60s, 70s and 80s music was more focused. I don't have a problem with more genres ...it is a good thing because it offers folks more choices. And your probably going to see more becuase of the downfall of the music industry and record companies at large. Folks (independants) are going to be doing everythinng themselves...and they currently are with new technology and media outlets like YouTube and MySpace. Record companies are being more particular too about who they're taking on...you thought it was hard breaking into the industry during the 80s, look at it now.

The best thing is you can't kill something that is great. For example, my best friend's son is 16 ...he and all his friends listen to the classics...KISS, AC/DC, Van Halen, Zepplin, etc...and that is all they listen to. They don't listen to the crap on the radio. There is a resurgance of 70s, and 80s bands with reunion tours and such...Ten years from now, you won't hear Pearl Jam nor STP, nor Soundgarden...but you will hear Zepplin, Rolling Stones, Hendrix..Judas Priest.

Just my 2 cents worth

ooohhhhhhhhhhhhh.yeah,too many kids wear classic rock shirts and dont listen to them.when i get a band shirt it means that i listen to about every song they made.

But, to answer your question: No, I don't like a lot of rock... but there's some that I enjoy. I like STP and Soundgarden. Someone here listed them as over-rated. all the new bands today like all this scremo or wtf you wanna call it its so.....like blaaa its all the same its crazy i cant stand it some are ok and the fall of troy has a real good guitar with them cant sing for crap but what ever todays music sucks.......and im 18 this is my music????no thanks give me something real not about ass tits and o im so sad crap just had to let that out.why cant my generation have a hendrix or a arosmith or idk someing there is no big time rock god at this time where did it all go????

One thing about Timmins Rock Radio is they do play lots of SRV and Johnny Winter (well more than in southern ontario) and this is one of the reasons I stay here despite crappy jobs and lousy weather.....plus real estate is cheaper and it's a healthier environment for raising a family when my wife and I have kids.....

Overrated bands in My opinion .....Nickelback ( I will admit to liking a song or two)...Creed, Kiss (I like some of this too but it's not tht greatest musically) there are others that are overrated but I like alot of the overrated stuff....some green day is cool

I love his music but, and I know it's blasphemous, but I think Hendrix was overrated.....He wrote awesome music but he came along at the right time and had a lot of new toys (for the time) and that's part of what set him apart.....don't get me wrong he was a genius but I prefer SRV's covers of his songs to the originals......that said I do have Hendrix LPs and no record player to listen to them on.....lol....now I fear for my life.....I should edit this out....

To clarify, I think Hendrix was overrated as a musician but deserved the title of creative genius.....his playing was sloppy at times but he invented some awesome sounds and inspired everybody after him to experiment.....oh I don't play nearly as well as hendrix did but this is still my opinion.....I wish I had half his playing ability but there were better players (more technical and cleaner)

Now I have to avoid the angry mobs hunting for me......

I agree.....Music has become less creative and there are fewer people taking risks....and the same regurgitated stuff keeps coming back....

I wasn't trying to say, in my previous post, that hendrix wasn't great....he was.....just he wasn't the greatest guitarist ever....there are better guitarists....but he was surly one of the most innovative and soulful....he also influenced so many......

The Doors don't do it for me. The only album I have is the first one which I purchased in 1980 or so.
Springsteen's songs sound the same to me, although he is a great performer. AC DC might fall into that overrated category for me, although I'm uncofortable using that term since I'm really no expert, and a mediocre intermediate guitarist myself.
Having said that, I guess KISS is the most overrated band of all time, for me that is. I think without the makeup they would never have gotten anywhere.
Molly Hatchet is overrated, and I never got the 80s hair bands, not to mention the 90s bands.
