The Who is completely overrated....Grateful Dead as a band were just about the worst. Jerry garcia was a very talented musician though. Rolling Stones..they had some great songs, but some good ones compared to 40 albums of shit, doesn't satisfy me. The Doors drag some ass too. Bruce Springstein is annoying...who ever says Elvis is over rated is nuts same with the beatles. Elvis was the first rock god. the world was obsessed with everything about him because there was nothing like him before. 1 billion records. thats 1 out of 8 people in the world own or owned an elvis record. The beatles were the first big rock group. again, the world could only soak them into fame. sometimes its their fame thats annoying. but you can't hide talent. Elvis, the Beatles and Zeppelin all deserve their hype!!

I promise you this, this thread would not exist nor would rock and roll as we know it today if were not for the King. You have to look at from a historical point of view. He wasn't some conniving prick out to make a quick buck. Yeah he didn't write his own tunes, so what. He had soul, and he was a great performer. All of the classic artists have their share of detractors, there are those that hate the Beatles, or the Stones, all of which is asinine IMO.

I'll add this......IMO, the affects of Nirvana on there huge fan base made it "uncool" for anyone else to be proud of actually being able to play guitar well......

We have a local club for touring bands behind my store. In the mid nineties I was talking to the band members since all the bands visit our cool comic/game/anime/horror store. I mentioned I just got the new Eric Johnson CD to the guitar player and he sneered with venom and hatred

Seems anyone who actually knew how to play was in his book, a person worthy of contempt

I'm sure he's doing fine at his construction job these days....Frickin' posers........

In the 90's? I'd have to say Nirvana. I confess, I just didn't get it. When everyone else was listening to them, I was listening to Soundgarden and Alice In Chains at the time of the Seatle/Grunge movement. Just personal preference. In hindsight however I don't mind them now. More nostalga than anything.

Recently? I have 2 gripes. Any "Emo" band and NICKLEBACK!!!! <Arrrrhhhhh>
At first I was all for my fellow Canadians but now .... Everything is a re-make of their second release! It's litterally down to a formula with no originality.....

most overrated band -

second runner-up - foreigner (i remember the crowd chanting for the opening act - a band called point blank - to come back for foreigner's encore)

first runner up - aerosmith (worst live show ever - we left when the crowd started throwing things at the stage - they looked totally wasted and couldn't play anything - didn't recognize a single song)

and the winner is --- elvis (most overrated and overhyped performer - ever)

Cant stand Red Hot Chili Peppers and I think Wolfmother must have connections and alot of bribe money to get their no talent garbage on the radio.

I think there is hope for some new releases like this band from Ireland that I've been hearing on the Loop in Chicago. I think they're called the "Answer" Good music!

Dang, I see a lot of bands that I really loved on this list. The Beatles were not overrated. Just my humble opinion.

I always scratched my head to a lot of the 80's bands but that wasn't my movement and it had a place in history I guess. I always thought Peter Frampton the solo artist was a bit too much as well.

IMO, too many bands to list. Surprised I haven't seen any body mention Motley Crue, or maybe Vinnie Vincents Invasion.

Anyhow, Led Zep is overrated IMO, maybe not the most. There's too many to think about....

Nirvana +100. Surprised to see the mention of Aerosmith. You must have seen them back in the very late 70's or early 80's when truly Perry and Tyler were an absolute trainwreck on stage. I remember seeing them 2 or 3 times where one or both just passed out and the show was over within 5-30 minutes.

I saw them 4 times in the past 3 years and they were just absolutely awesome. What we all would've expected back in the day. Sobriety, for them, is a beautiful thing.

roger that - the aerosmith concert i mentioned was from the late 70's - i think it was their stoned and smashed tour - they started maybe 6 songs and didn't finish any of them - the 'concert' lasted maybe 20 minutes when the crowd started booing and throwing things at the stage - had a friend in houston who saw them a couple of weeks later and had the same thing happen there - he said the crowd there almost started a riot - worst concert ever
