For me Bon jovi is the latter. They do not live up to their old hype, but Richie Sambora can play well, and John's vocals are clear. A Much better group than GNR of the same era to me. Slash and Richie would be a fun team though.

With each progressing year, as the music being pushed at us becomes so much less musical and more insipid, I go back to music genres I dismissed when I was younger and find a wealth of material.

I'm into Miles Davis now, but could not bear to listen to him twenty years back. I find I cannot go forward with most newer music, so I reach into the past. Heck, I love Link Wray and Dick Dale , but never did back in the 60's or 70's........Next, I'm hoping to listen to more Swing and jazz with moving bass lines. Still can't get into far out Bebop like Joe Pass plays.
I feel the same way!
I think this comes with age!
I listen to everything now and never did before, I was kinda narrow.
I think anybody that plays an instrument has something to say, good or bad and I respect that!!!!!

I never really cared for him, though I enjoyed hearing Clarence Clemens on sax.
Now I may be getting into him since there is so little new music that I care for. I've tried this new Country music and find it uninspiring and insipid, too formulaic. Modern rock , what can be found has too much baggage with it also. Older music is where I'm at I guess.

I will admit to finding Hannah Montana songs catchy though
And those Jonas Brothers, they have some fine Gibson axes
The things I watch with my eight year old daughter ( Where is that embarrassed emoticon? ...)

In a word... Genesis, the Phil Collins era at least was in my opinion the most over rated tripe...and The Police.

All I have to say is Thank God all the 80s hair-metal bands are Gone!
each and every one was overrated.

I think they appealed to 13 year old girls who didnt know if they liked girls or boys yet

Ritchie Sambora. The man is one of the most underrated guitarists/composers of our lifetime, and its all because he plays with Bon Jovi. If he were in a kick ass hard rock band, or even a bluesy or country outfit, the man would shine, and he's almost a better singer than Jon.
Ditto that. When the subject of underrated guitarists comes up, he's about the first one that comes to mind.

Zeppelin never really did it for me either, even to this day, and I haven't owned any of their stuff. I can respect them for their contribution in defining a genre and inspiring countless others, but it won't make me go out and buy their CD's.

Metallica is one of those big acts that I feel is very overrated. I saw them in about 1983 in the basement of the Cleveland Agora (The Pop Shop) when they were trying to outdrink each other and hawking their new EP between songs. Musically none of them seem very talented.

Yeah, U2 are bigger and more annoying than they should be.

Kurt Cobain could have done us all a favor and shot Eddy Vedder first. That whiny malcontent has been dead for years now anyway.

Add most of the 80's hair metal acts (except Queensryche), Dokken (does anyone have a more annoying guitar tone than George Lynch), Poison, Motley Crue, etc.

Never got the Grateful Dead.

The Rolling Stones and Springsteen never appealed to me either.

Most definitely. Seen them many times and still listen to their stuff. Saw them at the House of Blues the last few times and their still tight as hell.

One of not many acts where 2 guitarists (Wilton and DeGarmo) played almost as one.

The older U2 are total kill joys. I was watching their Chicago concert on HDnet, and it was freaking depressing. Save this and save that... just freaking play music I don't care what cause your pimping, jus tplay the music.

Nirvana, like it or not, are one of the more significant bands of the time. They single handedly changed the face of music for a number of years. I don't agree with what he did to himself, but the musically the catalog is solid. The unplugged show really showed his talents.
Talents?????????? WTF??????? I can kinda see the whole unplugged thing, thats when I first started playing guitar and didn't know what I was doing. I just started taking lessons and its like, first you learn popeye, three blind mice, and then any Nirvana song. Us kids would think it was cool just to be able to play a song from the radio. Well, lotsa dudes embraced the mediocrity and snobbed out real music, I kept an open mind and saw right thru it. Kurt Cobain was a horrible guitarist!!!!!!!!! Terrible!!! Embarrassing! I would not even bother if I was that limited. So many dudes would hang onto Nirvana because thats what their skills limited them to play, and then of course with that they'd say "Metallica sucks, Megadeth sucks, Pantera sucks, A in C sucks, none of these bands are good." or any other style band that can actually lights out, play. Not to go on a complete tangent, but Nirvana was an absolute mistake. Kinda like that William Hung dude from American Idol, but on a seriously taken level. At least Dave Grohl is pretty talented.........

Re: Most Overrated Band of All Time ????

If a band plays music and someone enjoys it, good luck to them. If they can make a few quid while they're doing it even better.

As far as I'm concerned the only ones that are genuinely overrated are the "boy bands" and "girl bands" that have no music in their soul, and can't actually hold a tune without heavy pitch correction.

I like Kurt Cobain, Neil Young, Strokes, don't get the Stripes, love a whole bunch of things that are sometimes just noise, never understood thrash and shredding, but if they're really playing it and someone's enjoying it, it's OK by me.

FWIW I don't get a lot of "modern" blues, but 50s Chicago and Delta blues gets me every time.

Boston. Never got it, never will, and what, ten years between albums??

As for the Beatles, no one compares. They made everything we are passionate about possible. The immeasurable impact of the first appearance on Ed Sullivan forty-four years reverberates to this day.

Funny, Brad Delp was in an awesome Beatles cover band too!

Boston's first album gave me the same goosebumps I go when discovering the Beatles. Boston works well for me.
A friend of mine says the same thing you say about Boston about Queen . I get Both and the Beatles.

Bands I don't understand:
I'm not into the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Flea be interesting, but I don't get it..

Re: Most Overrated Band of All Time ????

Not big on many major new bands, alot of newer bands are so bland . Any band who couldnt sound half as good live as they did from the studio I wasnt interested in either. I only liked a few songs from Queen
Bruce Springsteen and U2 are so over rated its pathetic , Ritchie Sambora sounds better solo than he does with Bon Jovi, and delivers well live too
