Bobbo, I seriously doubt that is true, Might have been some digital editings going on with some, I know when Gary Moore does live stuff there is no overdubs, I was at one of his shows and the way it was recorded , is the way I heard it live, Southbay was at the same show. Ted Nugent also hates having his stuff gone over
The Allman Brothers at Fillmore East, Another live show that I am sure was not re touched

I've seen Ted Nugent many times Live and he never sounded as good as double live gonzo !! That thing definately had overdubs on it !!! 99% of supposedly live albums are " Produced " after the fact !!! Wake up and smell the music business DON !!

I never considered Rush to be a Rock Band....nor did I consider Yes to be one, or Emerson, Lake and Palmer...

Re: Most Overrated Band of All Time ????

I'm seeing some names I never expected to see here... Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, the Beatles.. overrated? Damn...

The one I can understand is Nirvana, they are still so hyped, and even though I liked Kurt Cobain's songwriting ability(not his personality), the group was worthless in itself and never deserved the praise it was getting... i think they all knew that.

Currently, I think it's Muse

Bobbo, I didnt fall off the turnip truck yesterday, but I sure know alot of musicians with the attitude of NO overdubs, no editing, No Excuses , for their live stuff, but then you do have record company types who cant leave anything UN Screwed with. I spent two weeks working at Virgin, The recording label, not the record store, different entity now, let me tell ya very very enlightening two weeks, not to mention living in LA for as long as I did . You could barely get around LA in music circles without learning what goes on, unless you were totally retarded

Its because a lot of them are just glorified criminals. *not that rock stars are any better*

So many rappers out there who can't even rap well, but they have a 'rap' sheet as thick as a phone book. For some reason, that instantly gives them 'street cred' and they don't need any talent to be successful. Record companies glorifying gang life really piss me off.

Amen, brother! Thing is, they sell more of those records to white kids in the suburbs than anywhere else!

One reason I like Gov't Mule so much is their live stuff is totally unmolested, warts and all. And I don't mind hearing them, either.

Re: Most Overrated Band of All Time ????

Actually ALL bands that are very famous and successful are overrated! If talent and creativity were the only measure, then the bands selling records and winning awards would be a totally different bunch than we know of now! It is marketabilty that brings them to our attention. Some ARE damned good in spite of this.

However you can not like someone (The Beatles for example) and still defer to their talent! I do not like Opera for example, but I understand the talent it takes to excel in that field.

I do not have to like Christina Agulera to appreciate her abilty. The highest rated bands, tend to be the most overrated bands, by defination. But after having said all of that......The Rolling Stones will get my vote.

Speaking from my own experience, I did a "live" album in Tokyo with Vicious Rumors back in 1992 at the end of our "Welcome to the Ball" world tour. It is really 95% live in every aspect, only a few guitar solo fixes here and there. And that was done right after the show in the mobile recording truck at the venue. This also happens to be my least favorite of all the albums I did with VR. Atlantic shafted us on the production, and it sounds like it. I hardly ever listen to the damn thing, and I am a big fan of live albums.

Re: Most Overrated Band of All Time ????

The Dead, are IMO the most overrated, they sound so much like ladies, and BTW pwoznic, there is help for you, maybe the rev can help you on your tastes, the Beatles will never be outdone their music is timeless, usually the people who don't care for them are the jealous types, there I said It

Re: Most Overrated Band of All Time ????

I like the Beatles, but where I once worked they played an oldies station and ALL Oldies stations play AT LEAST 3 Beatle tunes in 30 Minutes, day in and day out. I got so fucking tired of the Beatles I sold my entire CD collection....well over 30 CDs, well now that I am not working there anymore, I bought the core CDs back (sans the BBC sessions, the Anthology 1,2,3 the Decca recordings, the Cavern and Hamburg stuff etc) because I missed Abbey Road, The White Album, Beatles for Sale and Revolver mostly.

Kiss...
U2 are up there.

I have to reserve my deepest hate for Bon Jovi. Everytime I hear people screaming the lyrics to living on a Prayer, I want to kill them. I always equated them in the bottom of the musical toilet with a variety of 80's hair metal acts. Somehow they've transcended the mire and are a "classic band".
They suck balls.

Thanks for listing your fave bands. I like many of them, but personally...(and now I need the flame suit), I think that Pink Floyd,Black Sabbath and
Jethro Tull are overrated.

Then again, this is all subjective. To each his/her own!
That's cool. I think Floyd pre Gilmour is way overrated, but they were innovative.

I forgot to list Elton as a main listen. The albums through 1976 were quite extraordinary. Nice band, not to much primadona soloing etc. Good to play for the song when possible. Go David Johnstone and Caleb Quay!

Yeah, the Zep part of my moniker may be a bit misleading. We had a group of us in high school who were fed up with the Zeps at our school. Zep was slang for druggie, waste product, stoner, head, etc.
So we called ourselves the AnitZep Soon enough it was shortened to Zep and we were called what we were against ( The stoners, not so much the band ). Anyway, the Zep thing goes back a long way, so I carry it into the netherworld of the internets.

It also has to do with the forgotten Marx brother, Zeppo. The skinny romantic lead brother that they ditched fairly early on. And the Harpo part, well, he cool yo! Plus I play harp guitar.

Bon Jovi, I used to dismiss them and turn them off . Now I like them Weird, eh? I guess it is because of the state of the music industry with no real talent being brought to mainstream attention, we have to dig for the new talent or rediscover older acts. For me Bon jovi is the latter. They do not live up to their old hype, but Richie Sambora can play well, and John's vocals are clear. A Much better group than GNR of the same era to me. Slash and Richie would be a fun team though.

With each progressing year, as the music being pushed at us becomes so much less musical and more insipid, I go back to music genres I dismissed when I was younger and find a wealth of material.

I'm into Miles Davis now, but could not bear to listen to him twenty years back. I find I cannot go forward with most newer music, so I reach into the past. Heck, I love Link Wray and Dick Dale , but never did back in the 60's or 70's........Next, I'm hoping to listen to more Swing and jazz with moving bass lines. Still can't get into far out Bebop like Joe Pass plays.
