Oh I gotta say KISS for sure. Worst live band I've ever seen.

Also The Rolling Stones. Tons of good songs, and Keef is an icon on his own, but Mick is a terrible singer and they don't deserve to sell tickets at the absurd prices they are asking.

Oh wait, maybe I can save myself here.
The Grateful Dead.
Just like Zep, I don't get it, but with the Dead, I REALLY don't get it.

Zep I can see where they are coming from even if I don't always like the results. They did some good stuff, but not enough in my opinion to garner all the praise and hype.
Anyway, Flame me , I can take it

Ok, I gotta ask...what bands DO you like? Maybe that'll help me understand why you think Zep is overrated!

yep,........(dont tell my best freind though! shell want her
backstage passes back!)

but i like the "Old Stones" before
Brian Jones died, that was a good band
Just like i like the Old Who.

Keef is a good guy, has done some things for the old
blues musicians that alot of other rock bands neglected
also that documentary he did with Chuck Berry was beyond a cool
thing to do. Ron Wood has really let himself go, both physicaly
and musicaly. He was one of the best Bass Players i ever saw
should have stuck with it, his bass work with Jeff Beck was great

I've heard they had good nights too, but when I saw them it was just bad. Uncle Teddy opened, and blew the stage away. Could have been a bad night, but it soured me on the experience.

I remember the first time I heard ALIVE and thought this band is INCREDIBLE! The level of disapointment I had when I found out it was overdubbed was terrible. I grew up on Deep Purple live records, Made In Japan, Made in Europe even, where the musicianship was mind numbing... My world was shattered when I heard the ALIVE records were fakes.

I would not call them fakes, they had alot of over dubs and studio fixes like many live albums do

I think Zep made some fine songs, and maybe they deserve the accolades for Robert Plant creating that vocal style that made a thousand wannabe white singers scream. Dunno. But I blame him directly for Axel Rose, and for that there is no forgiveness

My Zepphobia likely comes from adolescence where the druggies in my neck of the woods came out with brilliant statements like "Zep, He's the best"

Zep was influential, no doubt. But I think Hendrix's fame is more deserved as a true innovator. But heck it's only my opinion.
I have perhaps a couple thousand CDs and albums, and not one Zep among them. listened to plenty at friends houses and on the radio. They just don't move me. Oh well...........Glad they work for you and so many others.
They are a good band, better than most, but the question was about what we think are over rated bands. So I vote them and The Grateful dead. Heck I could put in Guns and Roses in too I suppose.

Folks I do like that I'd rather listen to than ZEP:
Pink Floyd rules!
Fairport Convention
Richard Thompson
Steleye Span
The Who
Aerosmith
Nugent
Beatles
Deep Purple
Black Sabbath
Jethro Tull
Zappa
Frank Marino
Pat Travers
Scorpions
Etc, tons more.......
I even added a newer band in the nineties, REM ( That took a lot , I gotta tell ya )
And a ton of acoustic folks. My favorite guitarist is in my avatar, Michael Hedges. May he rest in Peace.

I'd rather have a band put all the fireworks, make-up (God), and stage props away and play live relying on talent to keep me interested.

Re: Most Overrated Band of All Time ????

Ok, Haropzep...I can appreciate where you're coming from. But with "zep" in your handle, I would've thought otherwise.

Thanks for listing your fave bands. I like many of them, but personally...(and now I need the flame suit), I think that Pink Floyd,Black Sabbath and
Jethro Tull are overrated.

Then again, this is all subjective. To each his/her own!

I could be wrong on this, but I am pretty sure that KISS sold more records in the years that they took off the makeup from 1983 to 1995.

Kiss was really a "show" band, I think. I went to school with Gene Simmons, and he was more into being part of the culture and the show than musicianship.

If KISS was all about the show....explain why they sell millions of records (with and without makeup and huge stage shows). Gene is in love with himself, I have no problem with that. Thats the way he is. But he is very underrated as a bassist. He influenced many bassists and bands out there.

I know most bands do this, especially nowadays. Ozzy is famous for re-recording his 'live' stuff in the studio... but I worked with some guys who worked on the post production of one of the Alive! records and said the entire thing was a studio album, and that they just mixed in sounds of the crowd. I can't remember which one, but it was disheartening. I've been soured on most live records other than Frampton Comes Alive and Deep Purple Made In Japan because of this.

Those 2 are straight off the board, a little touch of mastering and pixie dust and straight to vinyl.

Well, wasn't Kiss kinda bombing out before they released their Live album?
I'm not saying that they didn't GET better as time went on. However, their initial attention-getter was their makeup and their show.
As far as Gene being an underrated bassist, I'm not buying that. He's pretty average, although he was influenced by Jack Bruce and Paul McCartney.
Not sure if he's finger picking his bass as yet, but he used to play with a thick, felt pick.

That may have been Alive 3. I read somewhere that the drums and crowd noise were the only original parts of that album, but who really knows.
