Steve and Phil were certainly a potent team back in the day.

I actually preferred Steve's work before Phil joined the band....I always thought Def Leppard had a much more raw, in-your-face sound before Pyromania.....

This is a seminal Les Paul tone for me that really made me want one myself...

Steve was great, he was the heart of Def Leppard as far as I'm concerned. Never been the same without him.

Re: Steven Clark Appreciation Thread!

BTW.....did anybody else feel like the ex Mrs. Shania Twain (Mutt Lange)....had something to do with, what i percieved as,putting Phil Collen more of a priority in the mix,and in the band as a whole?...sure...Steves drinking helped....but.....Collen made them TOO commercial, for my tastes...

Yeah, there was a definite shift from High & Dry and Pyro. Steve's riffs are still there, but Phil's style is all over Pyro.

Re: Steven Clark Appreciation Thread!

Mutt really was the 6th Lep.

I've always gotten the feeling that Mutt really wanted to take AC/DC in that direction, but they were way to hard-nosed for him, so he adopted Def Lep instead.

Only thing that was softening during the Highway to Hell sessions was Mutt's nose after Malcolm punched him in it!!!

I hadn't heard Steve's guitars were sold, wonder what happened to them.

Re: Steven Clark Appreciation Thread!

From The Wikipedia Page About Clark

On January 8, 1991, Clark was found dead on his couch by his girlfriend Janie Dean. The autopsy revealed he'd died from a mixture of anti-depressants, painkillers (prescribed for a rib injury), and alcohol. There was no evidence of suicidal intent. Daniel Van Alphen, Clark's drinking companion the night before, testified that the two went to the local pub and returned to the guitarist's home at midnight to watch a video. Van Alphen said Clark drank a triple vodka, a quadruple vodka and a double brandy within 30 minutes. When Clark passed out on the couch, Van Alphen said he left. Dr. Iain West, the pathologist who performed the autopsy, testified that Clark's blood alcohol level was three times the British legal limit, and an antidepressant and painkiller were both found at levels exceeding normal therapeutic doses. The anti-anxiety drug Valium was found to be at a therapeutic level.

His guitars were sold off by his girlfriend.
