hahah they have always been about the big sell, thats
Gene for you, always the businessman.

My nieces were in the Kiss Army back in 76, they used

Re: Kiss Fan? Kiss Army Poll

I liked some of their first album, but the whole make up and theatricals turned me off , My good friend Scott though, ever the showman, loved Kiss and drove me nuts with it all

While the musicianship was not stellar .. I loved KISS as a kid !!! Yes most of the songs are 3 or 4 chord wonders but they alway seemed to be able to put together songs that made you say ..Hey that's catchy ! I think they inspired alot of young players because their stuff was easy to learn !! I thought there was a POLL ?

Re: Kiss Fan? Kiss Army Poll

the first, and well, the only band I ever played in, must have had the entire KISS catalog down when I joined them ~ '77. I had KISS ALIVE and Destroyer. I think I threw out Love Gun the day I bought it.

As a 11 year old they were my world, now they are just good memories for me. I really can't listen to much of their stuff save for a few songs. To me their stuff is kinda hokey...

I love the Klassic Kiss era! Sure it's cheesy and the lyrics sometimes surpass Spinal Tap in ridiculousness, but it's fun rock n' roll.

Re: Kiss Fan? Kiss Army Poll

For me, KISS (along with AC/DC) is rock-n-roll. I can honestly say, if it was not for KISS, I would not be the slightest degree interested in guitar. Three-chord stadium rockers are where it's at for me.

Re: Kiss Fan? Kiss Army Poll

Huge KISS fan here, hence the screen name. I'm more of the original 4 fan. Some of the 80's music was a bit boring. But thats how bands progress and degress (if degress is a word). Anyways Gene is a genius in marketing but I persoanlly think it's TOO MUCH. But heck ride that wave as long as you can.

Re: Kiss Fan? Kiss Army Poll

Some people think they were horrible musicians, but they were actually more acomplished then what most people think. Ace definately aint a shredder but his solo were all feeling. He got stuck in the rockstar rut(drugs booze) and lost some creativity. Paul and Gene write great togather, to bad they stopped after awhile. Has anyone listen to Paul latest solo CD? Great CD! Musically Paul is KISS, business Gene is KISS. Anyways I'm out. This is the most I've ever typed in the forum! LOL

'nother fan here. Discovered them in 1980. (Was 10 at the time.) After that I got more and more into their older stuff. Ace and Paul are the ones who made me pick up the guitar a few years later.

Re: Kiss Fan? Kiss Army Poll

I've been a KISS fan since I was 10 years old (43 now) and I've never stopped. The reason I play and have a love for Les Paul's and Explorer's. I've even got to meet all of the original members and most of the others at various events. I'm the short one in the middle of the attached pic.

Heck yeah...1976 or '77 was when I officially joined, had a patch on my jean jacket and everything.

I still like their music; certainly not technical, but man, can they write a hook.

I can remember one day in HS a senior put $5 in the jukebox (we had one in our lunchroom, bought by a previous graduating class) and played Shout It Out Loud at least 25 times in a row. Talk about pickles flying everywhere...

KISS Rawks!

I've always been a fan of Ace Frehley. KISS, as a whole, never really did anything for me, but I love Ace's style. He never really wanted to be in that band...

I was born in 70 and didn't start listening to music til i was around 10 yrs. old. I'm not entirely sure but I think most of their albums were out by then. I don't dislike them but they aren't a personal favorite of mine either. I love Gene's T.V. show though (Family Jewels). That show is great!

Re: Kiss Fan? Kiss Army Poll

I was the biggest "Kiss Freak" around my parts. Me and a friend always tried to outdo each other in terms of who had the best bedroom decked out in Kiss Posters. You literally couldn't see my walls or ceiling in my bedroom because i had every Kiss poster that was ever printed and they overlapped each other because there wasn't enough space on the walls.

You didn't see any Farrah Fawcett posters on my walls or the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders like many of my other friends had during the mid to late 70s.....It was all KISS all the time!!!!

Then came the most terrible day....the day Kiss released the album Dynasty. I was so pissed that they had sold out to disco and had a disco vibe to this LP....totally sucked. As a result, i striped my walls of KISS posters and gave all of my vinyl KISS LPs to my cousin.

This is also the time when punk rock was becoming popular i.e., Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dead Boys, The Clash, Buzzcocks, etc...started gettin' into that instead. ...then that faded a bit and metal really began to blossom...AC/DC "If you want Blood, You Got it" was the LP that got me back on track again.

A few years ago, my cousin returned all my KISS LPs after having them for 30 years. When i got them they were in as good a condition as when i gave them to him.

Since then, Kiss has had some killer players, Mark St. John, Vinnie Vincent, and Bruce Kulick to name a few....I am sure glad that KISS got its shit back on track again.
