Rory Gallagher

Well, I'm relatively young, so I just found out about this guy Rory a couple days ago. I hadn't heard of him before because he unfortunately became less and less famous as time went on. I was very young at the time, but it must have been a shame to lose such a great player, he was only 47 when he died.

I'm really liking his stuff, still haven't listened to a good portion of his material yet, but here's something I found on Youtube that I'm really liked.

Re: Rory Gallagher

Irish Tour , erly 70's is simply incredible. Raw, honest, heart-felt, warts-and-all... like almost nothing you'd find made these days-

Wow, I hadn't heard his stuff before you posted this... but I can say that's exactly how a guitar should be played right there.

Re: Rory Gallagher

I am NOT relatively young, but I admit that I too have heard of Rory, but knew nothing of his music. Thanks for the post! I will check out some of his other stuff as well.

Let me repay the favor. Everyone knows a Free song, but not many know of Kossoff. Look up Paul Kossoff next. This guy was absolutely amazing and he too died way too young.

Re: Rory Gallagher

He played at a small club in Boston back in the late 80s and I saw both shows that night and got to meet him and his band. I believe he was asked to play with the Stones after Mick Taylor 'left'. Fender has a signature RG Strat I think.

Re: Rory Gallagher

One of the greatest natural guitar players and entertainers of "our" time. I'm glad to see him getting some more attention. "Messin' with the Kid" is inspirational, studio and live.

Edit: My real favorite is "Who'll be your sweet man when I'm gone". I choke up when I hear that one, every time, for both personal reasons and the poignancy it has regards his rather early demise. Have never seen that one on YouTube.

Thanks, man.

I can't find the smiley for "choked up".

Nah, you don't have to find that one. Glad I could help. Now, will somebody please turn up the Rory?

Re: Rory Gallagher

Rory is great, I recently bought some double album of him with one side live and the other halve studio. I have to say his live stuff is better. Watching that going down to Eli I have to post, not the original. I believe that was written and done by Muddy Waters guitar player Pat Hare, who some years later actually went and killed his girlfriend, (talk about some real blues there.) But this one by Robert Nighthawk. I really like the gritty sound of the guitars.
Sry about derailing but that's probably were Rory got his version from.
