I am trying to immerse my friend in more music, care to help?
Currently, he is mostly listening to modern stuff, bands like Disturbed. To each his own, of course - but I'd like to expose him to other kinds of rock & metal.
So I decided to "enroll" him into a course of the history of hard rock - starting with the time period 1965-1969 and moving on through half decade by half decade. What albums of that time period do you think are absolutely essential for any hard rock fan? I have a short list composed of as right now, PLEASE, add to it - HARD ROCK HISTORY LESSON #1: Mid/Late 60s "The Doors", 1967 album by The Doors Tracks of Interest - Light my Fire, Break on Through "My Generation", 1965 album by The Who Tracks of Interest - My Generation, The Kids Are Alright "Led Zeppelin", 1969 album by Led Zeppelin Tracks of Interest - Good Times Bad Times, Dazed and Conused, Communication Breakdown "Led Zeppelin II", 1969 album by Led Zeppelin Tracks of Interest - Whole Lotta Love, The Lemon Song, Ramble On, Moby Dick "Are You Experienced", 1967 album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience Tracks of Interest - Foxy Lady, Red house, Fire, Are You Experienced?, Hey Joe, Purple Haze, The Wind Cries Mary "Axis:Bold as Love", 1967 album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience Tracks of Interest - Spanish Castle Magic, Castles Made of Sand, Bold as Love "Electric Ladyland", 1968 album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience Tracks of Interest - Voodoo Chile, Voodoo Child (Slight Return), All Along the Watchtower

Quite a daunting task. I love rock and I'll keep with your half decade theme as best as I can (65 to 69).
Kinks - The Kinks; Kinks Size; Kink Kontroversy; Something Else The Beatles - all of em Yardbirds - For Your Love; Having a Rave Up; Roger the Engineer Fleetwood Mac - Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac; Mr Wonderful; Then Play On Rolling Stones - 12 x 5; Out of Our Heads; December's Children; Aftermath; Between the Buttons; Beggars Banquet; Let it Bleed The Who - Tommy Cream - Fresh Cream; Disreali Gears; Wheels of Fire; Goodbye. Santana - Santana Creedence Clearwater Revival - Creedence Clearwater Revival; Bayou Country; Green River; Willie and the Poor Boys Velvete Underground - White Light/White Heat; MC 5 - Kick Out the Jams All I can think of for now, good luck

It's a daunting task but he plans on starting a band with me and my buddy, so it'll be worth it. Thanks for the contribution

Re: I am trying to immerse my friend in more music, care to help?
Everyone knows the big names of 70s rock. But, there were many many great bands that were not as much a rock & roll household name, like Zep, the Who, and so on, but were huge, musically.
Montrose. The first 2, with Sammy Hagar on vocals. UFO - anything Micheal Schenker Foghat Thin Lizzy |

This reminds me of the first time you go into the drug store to buy condoms. "They're not for me, they're for my friend." mmmmmmm hmmmmmmm

Sticking to your time frames here's 1970 to 1975 (all Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin albums should be included)
Too many to do an album by album list but here's some groups Aerosmith Alice Cooper Allman Brothers Black Sabbath Blue Oyster Cult David Bowie Deep Purple Foghat Free Grand Funk Railroad King Crimson Kiss Lynyrd Skynyrd Montrose Nazareth New York Dolls Ted Nugent Pink Floyd Lou Reed Santana Scorpions Thin Lizzy T-Rex Robin Trower UFO The Who Yes

Re: I am trying to immerse my friend in more music, care to help?
I'll echo the sentiments of sloppy joe and reccommend thin lizzy. Absolutely fantastic band. Reccomended listening? Pretty much all of it.
Moving on the the late 70's and early 80's, you should introduce him to NWOBHM bands like Saxon, Diamond head and early Iron Maiden. Didn't see Judas Priest mentioned (apologies if someone already did). Another classic band.
