Andy Taylor's Tone on Bang a Gong

One of my 3 favorite guitar tones - both the rhythm and solo parts. I'd love to get this tone.

I think he used a Schecter guitar through a Marshall? Does anyone know what else is contributing this tone? (Type of pickups, effects, EQ settings, etc.)

I have a Jackson DK2 with the stock Duncans and a Kustom HV65 or Bugera V5 to work with (I think the Kustom would get me closer).

Here's the video.

Thanks.

Re: Andy Taylor's Tone on Bang a Gong

I always heard that he only used his P-90 junior on the whole album. Absolutely could be wrong, but my old 72.54 reissue nailed that tone except for the whammy parts, which always sounded like drop-in dubs to me. They just sound thinner to me.
I also seem to remember that it was his main Marshall, with the dubs being many different amps-to make up for the lack of different guitars.

Hey, I could be wrong, it's just what I recalled hearing. I liked it, but the only reason I cared was that I was playing it & I did attempt to find the tone.

I think his Marshall was modded, too ... I seem to remember reading that in an interview he gave at the time. It sounds an awful lot like a Jackson mod to my ears.

Re: Andy Taylor's Tone on Bang a Gong

Thanks Guys!

The only P-90 equipt guitar that I have is an Epi Casino with a Bigsby.
Not sure how close that will get me...the hollow body might throw it off...

To me it sounds like the EQ is scooped - does that sound right?

Also, what does the Jackson mod consist of?

Thanks for the help.
