Warren Haynes
Okay, much has been said about Bonamassa in the other thread. Let's change the course a bit and talk about another modern player. Warren Haynes is another of my favorites, the favorite of many people as well. His music is diverse, passionate, and he's very successful. I love his stuff with Mule and his solo material. One of the best playing guitar today. His new double live set "Live at the Moody Theater" is absolutely incredible. Talk on!

Could'nt agree more- he is the real deal, the complete package, no doubt about it. His singing reaches out and connects, when he solo's he is saying something with his guitar. You can feel the humanity in his performances. His skill is a means to an end, not an end in itself. |

Re: Warren Haynes
I particularly love the Mule Stuff. Though I always missed Alan Woody, my favorite CD is "High & Mighty." It's a great album in the classic sense.

Warren is one of the best. I really enjoy Gov't Mule's live stuff.

I love Warren Haynes' stuff.
One of my favourite discs is his Live at Bonaroo. I could listen to him play all day.

Re: Warren Haynes
Love WH - he is a great musician and a cool and humble cat.
I've seen him a bunch of times with ABB and a couple of times with Gov't Mule. Last summer I saw a smaller Mule show - it was outdoors in the parking lot of a local biker hangout. The show was awesome, and WH and his band were on fire that night. I remember they played 'Monkey Man' by the Stones for an encore - it litterally brought the house down. |

Re: Warren Haynes
I like his new live set, Live at the Moody Theater. It's some of the best playing he's done in a long time. I was taken especially by his readings of Jimi Hendrix's "Spanish Castle Magic" (you can almost feel Haynes wishing to himself he'd actually been at the ancient Seattle-area hotspot to which Hendrix was paying tribute; it makes you wish he'd gone right out of that song into the eulogy Hendrix wrote for the place, "Castles Made of Sand") and Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come." It's enough to make you wish Haynes would hook himself up with some of those classic Memphis and Muscle Shoals soul players (Steve Cropper, David Hood, Spooner Oldham, and Roger Hawkins come to mind) and just dig in deep on some fresh stuff . . .

Re: Warren Haynes
I never really though much about him until around 2001 or 2002. I was working at the local concert venue outside of Pittsburgh, and the Allman Brothers Band was one of the acts that year. I ended up working in the venue checking tickets to sit in the closer sections. It was pretty slow and a tame crowd so I got to pretty much watch the whole show.
Anyway, I was looking forward to a few of the songs from them I knew. Ends up the whole night they only played like 5 songs. Each one lasted about 40 minutes. It was just a straight jam session, and it was amazing. Before that day I just thought of him as a southern rock guitar player they threw in there to keep going. After that show I understood he was the real deal. That thing that people tend to say that one JB is missing... Warren has it in spades.

Re: Warren Haynes
We saw WHB in Sydney last year, Easter weekend. Awesome! Absolutely awesome. I love Mule, love the song Mule from Live at Roseland Ballroom, which is itself a favourite album.
As a long time Allman fan, I personally think he is the perfect fit for them. He carries the torch of playing from his heart so well. There's no hint of "look-how-many-notes-I-can-play" or "watch-me-impress-you-with-my-new-tricks"... His guitar sings along with him. I believe it's called "Hittin' The Note"..... (Wish I could do it...... but he probably can't fix fridges like I can! LOL) Cheers Brian

Re: Warren Haynes
I am a massive Warren Haynes fan. It's hard not to be if you like guitars and great music, IMHO. Talk about the busiest guy in show business, he is in, all at once;
Gov't Mule The Dead ABB The Warren Haynes Band. He surrounds himself with great musicians and elevates those around him. He's a great front man and blends into the back quite well. OK, I want to be him. Taaaasty licks most of all. |

Amen!. One of my personal heroes.
Haha, The number 1 comment, "Does Warren Haynes have any idea how NOT to kick ass? Doesn't seem like it." EDIT: I chose to post covers to exemplify his musical diversity.

Re: Warren Haynes
Been diggin Haynes and Gov't Mule since about '98. Have seen Gov't Mule a bunch of times since then. Been about 2 years since the last show...I could use a good Dose, which is my favorite Mule album. I appreciate the entire catalog as well as live stuff, but those first 3 or 4 albums really did it for me...darker, meaner and more raw.
