Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now ???

Some Nashville band called Halfway to Hazzard, I was hesitant to say they suck, but the consensus among all the roadies is.. they suck. Just goes to show it's not always talent that will get you signed.

Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now ???

Go and listen to Sean Costello, right now! Very talented guy with an old LP gold top. Sadly, passed away last Tuesday a day before his 29th birthday. Huge loss to the blues community, and the music world at large. Lot's of footage of him on Youtube, and his latest CD is a must-have. By all reports he was also a great guy. Tasty and inspired playing, most of it with just his fingers, no pick.

I went to my son's Middle School talent show last Friday. Yeah, some of the girls sang the usual girlie stuff, but the boy "bands" didn't disappoint. We're talking 12-14 year olds, and this is what was played:

All Along the Watchtower - Hendrix
Schools Out - Alice Cooper
Suck My Kiss - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Rock and Roll All Night - Kiss

.... along with 3 raucous drum solos.
Iron Maiden is big with my kid's friends. My two sons have a band (big surprise there) and their set list includes a half dozen originals, Green Day, Tom Petty, Joan Jett, Alice Cooper and a few other songs that were popular when I was a kid. I guess they don't call it classic rock for nothing, eh?

Another reason I think the younger kids play classic rock is they can
actually learn the cords. Alot of the new stuff, I dont think have any
ryme or reason, they just hammer on the strings in no specific order,
and, or, just one riff throughout the entire song.
Not meaning all new bands, just alot of them that have catchy lyrics
that get the kids attention. IMO

That's awesome!! I took my son to see Rush last year (11 y/o at the time) and he loved it. Now he wants to go and see Maiden in May.

My kids play guitar hero and then pick up their instruments and want me to help them learn the songs for real. It's a blast. I really want to take my kids to see a big show like Rush. We are working on it. My youngest (10) got to see Peter Frampton play at the ball park in our little northern WI town last summer. He talked about it for weeks and thinks Frampton is "God of the guitar"--which I would have to pretty much agree with. Very gratifying. I must be doing something right as a parent, eh?

Clapton in his heyday used to say the Freddie was the one guitar player that scared him. Any doubt why?
