I want to see someone buy it so they can take pictures of it. I love Randy's playing but I can't afford $150.

Re: Ozzy 30th ann blizzard box set

I'd like to have it too, but I ain't paying $150 for it. I wonder why everytime the industry puts out something like this, they always brag about it being "re-mastered". Who cares...such subtle differences, you probably won't notice them...and besides, I like those songs the way they were originally done. Remastering classic material would be like getting a spray can and painting over a checked vintage goldtop. That's how I feel about it, at least.

Re: Ozzy 30th ann blizzard box set

BIG Ozzy & RR fan here. The release of The Box Set is key for RR fans because there are two separate never before seen performances included. One is from May 1981 in New York, the footage is from right in front of the stage however full songs aren't included as the reel to reel tapes need to be replaced every 3 minutes or so.

The 2nd performance is from January 7, 1982 during the Diary of a Madman tour. This was shot by a local news station, however it was shot from stage right, therefore Randy is mostly in the background. If you'd like to see clips from the Diary footage, check out this video someone put on Youtube
It shows some of the new footage, including the close-ups of the outro solo.

Another key selling point about this box set is the new live CD. I'm a member at the two main Randy Rhoads forums and the general consensus is that this CD is even better than "Tribute" if you can even imagine such a thing. It's that good. And of course the two studios CD's are completely remastered and have the original bass & drums tracks restored.

Sorry if I'm sounding like a commercial for this, but it really is cool!

Re: Ozzy 30th ann blizzard box set

Is this the rumored version with the Kerslake/Daisley parts restored?

As much as I've always dug that album from the day it was released, I refuse to buy the reissue CDs/MP3s where Sharron made them replace those parts due to what appears to be a personal vendetta. No offense to Trujillo and Bordin, I'm sure they are great musicians in their own right, but you can tell the difference even with a casual listen.

Sharon & Ozzy graciously "restored" the tracks?? Oh,Thank You, Sharon...kunt. Ungrateful Greedy asses won't get another penny from me. From what I understand,Daisley and Randy wrote everything.
Sharon and Oz restored the tracks so they could capitalize on Randy and Daisley's brilliance some more......(dangle carrot here)

Ozzy really didn't come up with ANYTHING during his stints with Sabbath or Blizzard (and probably his current carnival sideshow).
Geezer wrote the lyrics for Sabbath, and we all know who wrote the riffs.
The only thing that I suspect OZZY of truly writing is :
"Let me see your fuxking hands in the air".

Yeah, I agree that writing vocal melodies is important, but he didn't do much of that by his own admission.

His only contributions re: the material that is being promoted in this 30th anniversary box set is limited to restoring the original tracks that he had removed out of spite to begin with.

If your band of top notch musicians had you to sing pre written lyrics over a E-G-A key progression ( for example), how much work (creativity) would you have to exert to create a melody to follow that structure?

Buy the box set if you like....hell, I don't care, but history shouldn't be re written in the favor of crooks.

Speaking generally, that depends on how high a quality of output you would like to see. The higher quality=the more work and the deeper level of creativity will be required of the person doing the writing.

I gotta disagree about Ozzy not writing many of the melodies he sings. I've never heard or read any quote from Ozzy saying he didn't write most of the melodies and other musicians who have worked with him have said that he does.

Its long been told by not only Ozzy himself but by Geezer Butler that in Sabbath Ozzy wrote all the vocal melodies save for four: Into the Void, Iron Man, NIB and Electric Funeral (the four songs where he just sang along with the riff). When the band recorded demos of their songs oftentime the lyrics weren't written yet so Ozzy would sing gibberish but the melody would be the same. Geezer has said that he would try to write the lyrics to fit Ozzy's melodies.

When it came to his solo career there is of course the famous story of how Goodbye to Romance was written: Ozzy was humming a melody, Randy liked it and wrote the music and Bob Daisley wrote the lyrics. In an interview Jake E Lee said that when he wrote songs for The Ultimate Sin while Ozzy was in rehab he'd write the majority of the songs musically but didn't bother writing any melodies because he knew Ozzy would put his own on there. I think the notion that Ozzy just took some pre-written lyrics and stuck a melody on them is unfair. Its not like he got the lyrics in the mail. Daisley was a member of the band, they all jammed together and the melodies and lyrics were most likely written alongside each other.

I would say that Ozzy deserves credit for his work in that aspect. I think vocal melodies in general aren't given enough recognition but then again I couldn't care less about lyrics, I just like the sound of the human voice. Anyone can read a sheet of lyrics and sing them over some music, but it takes talent to do it well and I think Ozzy is blessed with that talent. Likewise, anyone can listen to a melody and crap out some lyrics to it but it takes talent to write good lyrics.

Did Ozzy write the riffs? No. Did he write the solos? No. Did he write the lyrics? No. But did he right the vocal melodies? By many accounts yes, he did, and I think thats enough to justify song-writing credit.

Now, if you want to get into some real premium, AAA bullshit, whats up with Ozzy being credited as the sole songwriter on Bark at the Moon?

Re: Ozzy 30th ann blizzard box set

Hahahaha re: Bark At The Moon. That shit is funny when you read it on the credits especially when we all know Ozzy couldn't tell the difference between a power chord & a power saw lol. As I recall, there were some legal issues regarding publishing due to Bob Daisly being on another label with another band. Remember, Bob had been out of Ozzy for about two years before coming back for BATM. He (and Jake) got a cash buy out, like many musicians for hire do, for their contributions.

I do think Ozzy gets a bad rap, many people think of him as some kind of dope who just got lucky. Well if that's the case, he's got about the best luck of any one I've ever seen. To go from Sabbath, to his early solo success, the re-birth of the "No More Tears" era, to having the biggest concert tour many years on end (Ozzfest) to his Hugely popular MTV show...ya kinda get the idea he might have something to do with it after all :-)

I personally love all parts of his career, but those early albums with Randy are clearly the highwater mark IMHO.

After Sabbath,Ozzy was lucky to have the Don Arden army of
"Let's rob whatever musician we can" to propel Oz into the stratosphere of record & concert sales.

Anyway, if people think that they're gonna get much more outta this NEW $!%ing box set, I think they're sadly mistaken. It appears to be yet another "Let's give them a few new licks of uncirculated Randy Candy, but make them pay outta the ass for it" promotion.

Re: Ozzy 30th ann blizzard box set

It's hard to know how much of it is true, but I think the common impression of Ozzy is that of a talented but somewhat daft singer controlled by a manipulative wife, who happened to be the daughter of an ruthless music business icon who managed Black Sabbath at the time Ozzy was fired.

Their Wikipedia articles do seem to back up those impressions.

Knowing what Osbourne did to Daisley and Kerslake, do you think Randy's family is seeing much of the $$ from this product?

HUGE. I thouht he was a GOD as a youngster. When Sabbath let him go, I cursed Sabbath....MY FAVE Band in the Universe.
I was so happy when OZ returned ( with Randy?....oh sh1t) . I couldn't believe how cool "my fallen hero" had came back and kicked Sabbath in the pants.

Fast forward to Randy's death (R.I.P) . Ozzy has been talking about having tons of "Randy" footage, board recordings, candid photos....etc that "he was gonna share with his adoring fans" . I'm just pissed that he keeps selling "drops" of Randy's excellence for bricks of gold.

It's obvious that all that posted on this thread digs OZ.....so do I.
Maybe you can see the passion that I have for just wanting OZ to do the right thing?

Well, I went to 1/2 dozen stores yesterday just trying to find the remasters that came out 5/31. After having no success I finally wound up just ordering them from Amazon. The video on the 30th ann I recorded from VH1.

No, there is only one track on the new CD that is from KBFH and that is "Flying High Again". It's still unclear if the rest of the CD is from a single show or a compilation of tracks, however the rest of the songs are previously unheard performances.

Having seen Ozzy live, both when he was "on" and when he wasn't (tried but failed to nail the high notes, etc.); the live material added to the $15 Diary deluxe edition seems like the good stuff, at least from listening the 90 second iTunes previews.
