Re: Ritchie Blackmore - Guitar collection and music

Wow, great thread!!! I'm a Blackmore fan myself. I've just worked on a strat with a scalloped FB. Notice on the headstock, the extra thingy...the thingy near the high E tuning post that does absolutely nothing! Let Cozy Powell figure that one out!

What's the story about that 'thingy' and Powell ?

Just curious , what is written on the pick ?

Guitar looks special, some psychedelic vibe going on there!

It's in the video (Ritchie's Guitar Collection) that I just posted below the pics. That's why I put the video up again. You had this video on your opening post. It's right around @ the 3:10 timeline of the video. It must be some string tension thing, it has to do something! Is it for an extra string???

Oh ya, the pick is an old pick from the '80's. It's a genuine TECKPICK (Pat. Pend.) made out of brass...it's awesome. It's an on board spare guitar pick.

He-he, very cool!

I had a strange feeling I'd seen some similar 'thingy' in another context or something, yet I could not put my finger on it.
That it's in the guitar collection vid, ah the old brain is going

That is a great tribute to Ritchie, how you put that detail in!

The thingy is a spare guitar strap end pin that is chrome-plated, solid machined brass made in the U.S.A. On top of it in the other photo is a spare gear from a tuning machine to act as a spacer because the screw is too long and would go thru the head-stock. And it does absolutely nothing!

The head-stock is inspired by this certain head-stock.

Here's a hopefully true little story with such thorough malice about Ritchie by Lemmy.

Thanks, very cool. I just heard about this now as well.

Blackmore bought his black 1968 Maple Neck Strat stock in the spring of '69. I believe Fender mean to bring these out as a representation of the stock guitar, so no scalloping for them.

It's unknown when exactly the original was scalloped. What is known from interviews is that RB started using scalloped fretboards from around 1971.

Re: Ritchie Blackmore - Guitar collection and music

"In 1973, Coverdale saw an article in a copy of Melody Maker, which said that Deep Purple was auditioning for singers to replace Ian Gillan. Coverdale had fronted a local group called The Government, which had played with Deep Purple on the same bill in 1969, so both he and the band were familiar with one another, and after sending a tape and later auditioning, Coverdale was admitted into the band, with bassist Glenn Hughes adding his own vocals as well.

In February 1974, Deep Purple released their first album with Coverdale and Hughes titled "Burn" which was certified Gold in the US on 20 March 1974, and in the UK on 1 July. In April 1974, Coverdale and Deep Purple performed to over 200,000 music fans on his first trip to America at the California Jam."
