Re: Steve Howe: Best Guitarist EVER?
He is definitely one of the great players.
However, I fall into the category of people who do not think there is an "all time best" or "greatest" because people play different styles and have different vibes. When I was younger, I did in fact put Steve Howe in the "all time greatest" category because he is really technically proficient. Every time I watch him, whether acoustic or electric, I am amazed at how he plays. (I swear I think I saw an inteview and he said he had no musical training, he learned by ear). But, Stevie Ray Vaughn is good too, only he plays a different style. Same with Clapton. I can't see Steve Howe playing Hendrix like Hendrix, or even playing Hendrix like SRV. But I bet you Hendrix could not play Steve Howe either. How can you really compare any of these players except to say how they impact you, and whether they are one of your favorits? Page is great too, but again in a different way. Sloppy blues, but he had a creativity in his improvised soloing that I think is fantastic. Jazz has its great players too. There is no way to judge Al Di Meola versus someone in a different genre, like the guitar player in Primus who is good also in his own way. Sorry for the babble, but a few cocktails and a trip down memory lane with how great Howe was has made me want to type and type.... |

Re: Steve Howe: Best Guitarist EVER?
I was fortunate enough to see Steve Howe live when he was in Asia. He was phenomenol. That being said, I don't know how one can catagorize a "best" guitarist. He can be a "favorite" guitarist, but "best"?
