Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

I really appreciate this thread, the collective as it were.

I first heard opiate on CD thru some bose 901's.

heard bits and pieces of undertow, then a few years later i 'borrowed' a copy of aenima off my bro. Still got it.

I first saw tool for lateralus tour. Couldn't see Maynard only his silouette against the psychadelic backdrop.

Saw them at outdoor concert a fews years later, but I think indoor for sound quality is best. Saw APC at a small venue, less than 1000 punters (this was the last concert where I could enjoy a beer and a smoke and a smoke in the venue whilst watching the band).

I have purchased two of each studio album on vinyl - well worth the effort.
10000 is bootleg though.

In my locale of the planet; it is hard to find someone that has even heard of the band, let alone like them.
I mention the band TOOL; and the response is 'your a tool', forever shaking my head at their foolishness.

the band is IMO better than stones, who, floyd, zep, gnr put together. dont get me wrong I still enjoy that music, appreciate the jimi's (if only hendrix was still here), but for artistic genius across many media, it is TOOL.

p.s a KYUSS thread could be cool to discuss, IMO, 2nd best band.

Awesome...thanks for the input/contributing. I agree...this thread is great and it pays tribute to the greatest band on the planet. That's cool that you have the studio albums on vinyl...something I've never seen or heard.

Hey J, you're welcome!

The new place is great. Thanks!! Still too f'n busy here. My checklist is still pretty long. I'm hoping to set up the "play" area today or tomorrow. Just not sure since I have so much little stuff to do. Less than 4 weeks another bundle of joy is due to arrive. Our 2nd boy. If I think I'm busy now I'm mistaken. In 1 month "free" time will cease to exist. Haha.

All great though!! Thanks for asking!

That is a goodn'. Good 'ol days, I don't know...I like Tool as a "big" band too...the lights, the show, etc. Plus, their sound has evolved...into something hard to duplicate .

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

Another famous and classic moment in Tool history. Here is an early gig of the band playing at the Scientology Centre in LA. From what I know the band didn't know they were booked to play there until they arrived and they weren't happy about it. Later mentioned in Aenima "**** L. Ron Hubbard and **** all his clones"

Haven't even started playing yet and you can already see Maynard's mood pointing at the announcer as he says TOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLL.

Maynard baaaaa baaaa at the crowd.

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

It started falling apart around 8:10...but they brought it back. That's the hardest part of the song for me to play...when to come back in, etc. Makes me feel better that even Adam messes it up sometimes . Interesting....

Yes it did. Great audio on that one!!

I was wondering the other day if a band ever really has a "perfect" show. Meaning every single member was on point and made zero mistakes. No matter how big or small. I'd bet it's extremely rare, even for veterans.

I've often thought the same thing...especially after beating myself up about not being able to ever get through a whole song without at least something I would have wanted better. I think the same thing happens to the pros. There might not be a detectable "error" by the audience, but internally, I'll bet they don't play perfectly every time. I'll be there are parts they go over after the show in their minds that they wished came off better. That's the nature of live art I think.
