Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

Keeping this thread going today...

Here's Reflection. Working on this one next, myself. Always been one of my favorite Tool songs. IMO, another song that I couldn't imagine coming from anyone else. It's got such a weird vibe to it. Love the guitar work in the first half of the song especially, such a cool groove.

Edit: And you've got to be impressed by Adam playing the synth with his feet while playing the guitar. Talk about rubbing your stomach and patting your head.

Sweet. Not that's it's wearing you down, but rather that you'll be able to set up your gear .

Yeah man I'm excited. The gear run will be Wednesday I hope. Most likely won't have time to plug in though.

^That's awesome. I'd never seen that before. A lot of people like their sound better a decade or more ago. Personally, I like seeing what they'll do now with their older stuff. I like hearing what Adam does with this tone to older songs...

Here ya' go! Actually have all of Aenima except 3rd Eye up on Youtube, currently. This vid was done a while ago, I've since changed my routine for practicing a song prior to recording...so this vid may be a bit "rougher" than my last few.

You know, I was thinking the same thing today as I posted earlier...that I really enjoy this thread and am glad it's here. I look forward to checking if there is anything new every morning as I sip my coffee...knowing that Ed will probably post something, or maybe someone else chimed in with some thoughts, videos, or whatever. Thanks for the nice compliment...it means a lot that a fellow Tool fan likes my covers. And to call them out amongst other content is touching . Thanks bud .

For sure. I've brought them up on here years back but never really got the receprtion that we're getting now. I even heard some bashing. It's a nice change.

J, You've inspired me 100%! Your vids and playing are awesome! They have made me take my playing more seriously. Before seeing those I would just play loose riffs, hack away and move on. I wasn't really concerned with finishing songs, just wanking. I'm having so much more fun playing them technically!!

Bashers are welcome. After all they are nothing but TOOLs.

That's awesome Ed, thanks. I'm probably playing more now than I ever have in 30 years...and having the most fun I've had playing the guitar since I started. Stinkfist was the first song I learned all the way through about 2 years ago. I don't know why I never tried to learn a whole song before...maybe thought it was too much work. My guitar playing consisted of picking up the guitar, maybe, twice a week for a half hour or so and just noodling and playing the occasional riff. These covers give me something to work on...a reason and a goal, etc. I've been playing between 1-3 hours every day since I started doing these covers 2 years ago...and having a great time. Some would say, that doing covers and copying someone's tone isn't as good as doing your own stuff, etc. I say BS. I've learned so much playing these songs. I've gotten more comfortable with my guitar and where the notes are, volume, tone, picking, pedals, etc., etc. When I noodle now, it sounds better from the influence. Plus, no matter what you play...you're playing. And playing is better than not playing...so whatever gets you in there and gets you playing has to be good. You can't hold a guitar for hours a day and not get better. Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Glad you're having fun and playing more...rock on .

J

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

Fun is fun. I don't care what ANYONE thinks.

Some people have a hard time understanding that people like me have a goal to play guitar. And by playing guitar I mean to play songs I love, not to break the molds. I'm a hobbyist. People that would say you're wrong for doing covers usually take things more seriously, but fail to understand that I'm meeting "my" goals. They just need to stick to their own and STFU.

Here's Danny at a drum clinic. Watching him play the drums makes me glad I play the guitar...cause I don't think I could do it.

Thanks Brotha!! It's quite a process. I've never moved to the extent I did this weekend. Almost back to normal, almost.

Glad to see this baby is still going!!
