You better believe I'll be dorkin out in my basement with this one!!

PS

This is a spotlight of Adams tone too. It's the first time I've heard him without the band. Although his settings are probably tweaked to compensate. It's a great example.
You're absolutely right...I didn't think of that. Everywhere else you hear Adam, there's other instruments. This is probably the only known footage of Adam alone! Holy crap, that is very significant.

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

Adam on performing the National Anthem:

‎~Wow! What a blast.
Triple H and his wife Stephanie are big tool fans and asked me to open the show on live international television. Pretty FN crazy.
Vince McMahon ask for a demo so i emailed him one. How cool is that?
All the Wrestlers i met that night were so encouraging and supportive (thanx!).
John Cena joked "just dont pull a Christina Aguilera…"
And with that said, i apologize about the flub up in the first verse.
Some of the camera guys ran by me so close that i thought something was wrong.
Totally broke my concentration.
But to me the rest was a Home Run! The crowd was great. And i will now demand that at the end of any future solo i do
there are epic FIREWORKS.
~big xx to Terry

And I agree, everytime he does a solo he should get fireworks. lol

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

I need some help from all you other TOOL fans please!

I need some new music and can't seem to get into anyone. I have a problem and compair everyone to TOOL, they lose.

Any suggestions? I try my best to keep an open mind, but always seem to find an issue.

Tough one Hack. I love almost all music. I do not compare bands to Tool. Like you I wouldn't get far if I did.

I also cannot tell you the last time I've gotten into a "new" band. It may be A Perfect Circle. And they're not new at all.

Here are a few "harder" bands that I LOVE. Again not to be compared Tool, but solid bands that have/had it all IMO. Sadly not "new".

A Perfect Circle
Rage Against the Machine
Audioslave

It's not that I compair them directly to TOOL, but more like the quality of TOOL. I find that too many bands are just basic, and basic is shit. I love the depth that TOOL brings to the table. The quality is actually art to me and struggle with the crap that I hear.
I may not give others a chance for the only way I get to hear new music is junky radio in this area.

I hear ya. I've got the same problem. Instead of trying to find a cure, I feed my affliction. Get a Youtube downloader (free on the net) and download live Tool performances and whole concerts...this guy has a ton of great audio:
third3ye3's Channel - YouTube
APC has already been mentioned. Puscifer is another. I find if I'm listening to APC or Puscifer...it still feels related, so I don't freak out, lol. I've tried to listen to Isis...another favorite of Tool fans, but I can't get into them. Then there's Dream Theater, again, a favorite of Tool fans, but not for me. Then there's the personal favorites of the members of Tool...Robert Fripp, The Melvins, Meshuggah...again, I tried .

I agree wholeheartedly. I do not listen to the radio unless I have no other choice. I've been this way since I was a teenager. I always listened to tapes or CD's.

The good thing now is we have the internet. We can listen to anything we want. Given the time to sit at the computer.

Ya know I haven't listened to Puscifier much at all. Definitely don't own any albums. I think it's time to add something new to my old, stubborn collection!!

I would start looking for classical music that's appealing to you to listen. I've been smirking in its general direction until very recently, but in one way or the other it's all there.

Apologies for polluting the thread with unrelated videos.

Can't get internet where I live.

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

Actually just went and watched a string quartet perform a bunch of Schubert this past weekend. Was performed in a wine cellar with all the wine barrels...perfect for chamber music. Got free VIP tickets from the wife's work....escorted in, front row, etc., etc. Pretty fun afternoon. Pieces were 20-40 minutes long. And I thought Tool songs were long. When there was a page break, they would all tune up and then continue. The only live performance I've seen where you can tune up mid song, lol.

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

Hack - here's a few suggestions based on the depth & art aspect but I don't know what you're familiar with already. I just skimmed through my iPod:

Alice in Chains - any album, any order
Deftones - any album, any order
Days of the New - Start with the Yellow album, then Green. The Red album can be forgotten but it's not terrible
Faith No More - Album of the Year is my favorite but they are all good after (and including) The Real Thing
Filter (borderline, but "Title of Record" and "Short Bus are great albums IMO)
GNR (I only say this because everyone seems to think Appetite is the only album worth listening to. Use Your Illusion I & II can get real deep and really showcase some raunchy/punky blues.)
Jerry Cantrell - Degadation Trip 1 & 2
Kyuss
Mad Season (only one album, Above, but it is a masterpiece)
Metallica (same disclaimer as GNR only regarding Load & Reload. Get past the few junk tracks and there is some amazing music in those two albums.)
Monster Magnet - Dopes to Infinity
Pink Floyd - Any album
Radiohead - Ok Computer first, then any album
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Soundgarden - Any album, any order
System of a Down - Any album, any order
30 Seconds to Mars - This is War is the only one I'm really familiar with but it is deep if you ask me

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

Thanks for your input Sludgie.

There are quite a few on the list that I have already, and some great classics I might add.

I have never given 30 seconds, monster mag or mad season a shot yet, guess its a start!

Thanks again.

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread

Don't know if I've ever posted this before or who does/doesn't know about it already, but here goes.

Tooltabs.net / phase2

Good place for tabs. They aren't all there and they aren't all perfect (no tab is), but it's a good place to start to learn Tool songs. I started there, used my own ear and live Tool show videos to make up the difference. Thought I'd share. Hope you all are having a good weekend. Cheers.

Ya, that site is a mess, actually. Still decent tabs, but a mess non-the-less. Don't know much about it, but the guy/guy's that run it don't seem too interested in upkeep/maintenance. The forum sucks...basically a few "regulars" that aren't interested in Tool anymore (the weirdest, most ironic thing I've ever heard of) basically being d-bags and chasing off anyone else who posts there. The people who used to write tabs have moved on. There is one guy, SideEffect, who still does tabs and also has an account on YouTube. His new tabs, as he completes them, are buried in the forum...again, if anyone maintained the site, the tabs would be moved into the "tab" area, but alas.
