Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread
Until recently I've had my SB strung with those skinny top heavy bottom. I liked them so much I put them on 3 of my guitars. The other guitars are standard tuning.
I recently decided to try a set of 12's I had sitting in my tool box. (no pun, ha). I like the 12's even more. The string tension is awesome. I don't miss the other set, yet. I did have to file the nut a little bit so it may not be a direct upgrade. |

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread
They do feel huge. That's one if the things I love about them. There's no question that there's added tone in bigger strings. It's certainly an adjustment though. Playing "Nobody's fault, but Mine" is not as fun as it used to be on this guitar.

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread
No, Ed was just saying that while he was searching for a video to post here he came across my Reflection guitar cover on page 2 of his search. I've put up enough guitar covers now that they pop up on most searches for Tool on Youtube.

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread
Holy crap. I didn't realize that was Justin on the bass with that extended note, etc. See...never think there is nothing else to learn; there is always more to learn. Makes sense now though as they never have recorded anything that can't be duplicated on the stage...ie, "needing" two guitars, etc. Justin IS the other guitar. You can tell the camera guys is looking for the source of the sound about mid way though...probably thinks it's Maynard on the synth. Awesome.

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread
This guy puts up the very best Tool drum covers, IMO.
Goes to show what a beast Danny is. No other drummer like him. Could you imagine what Tool would sound like with a drummer that just put a beat down. Eww. It's probably best you don't...and just watch the video .J

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread
Thanks for the vid Ed. Well, I've been wanting a decent cabinet for a while now. Got a good guitar, good amp, crappy $270 MG 4X12 cabinets. Don't get me wrong...I'm not complaining about them. They've served me well for over 10 years, but I just can't help thinking that a decent cabinet (or two
) would sound even better. So, I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a Mesa Stiletto 4X12. You can tell the Rectifiers from the Stilettos by the piping...silver on the Stiletto, black on the Recto. Adam runs a vintage Stiletto...basically a "straight-slant" with the overhanging lip on the top. Pretty excited to see what the V-30's sound like.J

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread
That's awesome J!
I have a few suggestions. The only thing about Mesa cabs I do not like is the price. Have you thought about having a cab built? You can save a ton of cash. Hell you can get 2 for the price of 1 Mesa. I had these built by Sourmash. The speaker cab to Marshall 1936 specs. ![]() I loaded it with V30's. Bought them used. I love this cab. The built quality is superb. Bob uses birch plywood, same as the major guys do. These 2 combined cost me $485 shipped. You'd have to get quote, but I'd guess for a 2x12 you're looking around $250 + shipping, unloaded. Then you can add speakers, mix and match or whatever. If I had a 4x12 I would mix speakers. I'm thinking of pairing a Eminence Wizard with a V30 in my cab. The Wizard is Eminence's "G12H-30". It much cheaper than Celestion and it gets great reviews. Hanging around in the Squawk Box forum can give you more insight on speakers and cabs. It can be daunting though. And be careful, the forum can be costly!! Obviously you cannot go wrong with a Mesa I just figured I would toss this out there to let you know there are other options. |

Re: TOOL Appreciation Thread
Here's a cool clip...useful for playing along. "No guitar" backing track. I'll have a cover of this song up soon and will be using this as the backing. Totally cool...however, there is nowhere to hide
, so it must be perfect.J
