Re: Jimmy Page the outrider solo album?
I thought The Outrider was decent enough, but if you want a real semi-lost Page jewel, hunt down Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes Live at the Greek. If you want to hear Page let fly on the kind of roots music he always did love (they were forced to, since the Black Crowes had just bolted Columbia and were up against an injunction denying them the right to play what they'd cut for the label for a few years) and a few interesting re-interpretations of some Led Zeppelin chestnuts (including and especially "Your Time is Gonna Come," "Ten Years Gone," "Custard Pie," and "Sick Again"), not to mention a fun rework of the Yardbirds' "Shapes of Things," this is something you'll love.
It's also got something you can't say you always got the impression about for a lot of the music Page made in the interim between Led Zeppelin's demise and this set---he sounds like he's having the time of his life.

I thought it was good but not "amazing".

Re: Jimmy Page the outrider solo album?
It was okay, but not fantastic.
A bit different--which was good. A bit similar-which was good.

Re: Jimmy Page the outrider solo album?
I wasn't thrilled with it. I've had it on vinyl since the day of release and every couple of years I put it on to see if it has any new life, but doesn't. Oh! It's been a couple of years. Time to give it a listen again. I'll get back, but only if it wows me.

Re: Jimmy Page the outrider solo album?
I actually didn't appreciate it for what it was at the time when it came out...felt rushed to me...but now like BMS I find I keep going back to it and liking it more and more.
Absolutely loved Liquid Mercury when I first heard it. Still do. |

Re: Jimmy Page the outrider solo album?
Outrider seems a bit dated to me. Also agree with who ever said it sounded rushed, like they could have taken more time to get it sounding better (Vocals especially).
Nevertheless, he has some good tones and good playing on that album.

Re: Jimmy Page the outrider solo album?
I bought it when it was released. I've still got it on vinyl somewhere.
I really wanted to like it, but I didn't. I liked bits and pieces, but I felt like it lacked cohesion. I particularly hated some of the vocal performances. I liked quite a bit of JP's guitar work, but some didn't do it for me. But it was really interesting to hear a more modern recording of him, and hear what he would do with the new production techniques. I still find that interesting.
