Perhaps, if they continue. I read an interview with Butch Trucks where he was saying the future of the ABB is not clear, people are slowing down, getting old

Really? What a shame. ABB and their music just continues to bottle age, it just gets better, more complex, more pared down, more interesting. I have a friend who travels internationally each year to see as many of the Beacon Shows as he can.

I suppose the day has to come, but the world will be a poorer place without ABB. I hope they go on.

Unless Hell Freezes over and Greg and Dickey make amends for there falling out 10 years ago chance are very unlikely that Dickey will be back in the ABB.

Gregg Has a solo record coming out on Jan 18th...

Gregg Allman returns with ‘Low Country Blues’ - Monsters and Critics

Quote:
Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame legend Gregg Allman has announced plans to release ‘Low Country Blues’ - his first solo album in 14 years.

The Rounder Records release (which will arrive on January 18th) is titled for the coastal Georgia region Allman calls home, and was produced by T Bone Burnett. It was recorded at his Village Recorder studio in Los Angeles and features Dr. John on piano, guitarist Doyle Bramhall II, and Burnett's brilliant go-to rhythm section: bassist Dennis Crouch and drummer Jay Bellerose.

As a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and in his own storied solo career, Allman has long been a gifted natural interpreter of the blues. His soulful and distinctive voice is one of the defining sounds in the history of American music.

‘Low Country Blues’ finds him putting his own stamp on songs by some of the blues giants whose work has long informed his own, from Muddy Waters and BB King to Buddy Guy and Magic Sam.

Though constantly on the road, Allman has spent precious little time in the studio since the 2002 death of producer Tom Dowd - the man behind the glass for much of his recorded career. Sceptical at first, Allman and Burnett quickly bonded and work began in January 2010.

The powerhouse band - which of course also features Gregg's own acoustic guitar expertise and trademark Hammond B-3 organ - cooks up an earthy and atmospheric musical stew infused with gritty R&B muscle, spooky Southern psychedelia, and greasy deep soul grooves.

‘Low Country Blues’ was initially slated for a mid-2010 release, but that plan changed when Gregg, who had long battled chronic Hepatitis C, was notified that he was a candidate for a liver transplant. In June 2010, he entered the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida where he successfully underwent the difficult surgery.

Allman has been described as justifiably proud of ‘Low Country Blues’ and is eager to get out there to bring these songs to his countless fans.

In a press release, Allman stated: "When you have a new record it always feels different. Man, you gotta get out there and move the muscles, you gotta move it and shake it. It's been too long. I guess I was just born with a lot of gypsy in my soul."

I was really disappointed he wasn't involved with the 40th anniversary shows. Seems to me if they could have set aside their differences they would have if only for that series of shows.
So, no. Sadly.

Seriously, the only thing that needs to be set aside for Dickey to rejoin the ABB is that stuff that Dickey uses to mess up his life and his music relationships. IIRC, he has a standing invitation to rejoin the band if he can get his act together first.

Sad, really, because he is such a talent. If I had to pick one favorite song, it would have to be 'Liz Reed from the Fillmore double album. Just incredible stuff.

Oh well, I guess people get their shit together when they are good and ready, and not a minute sooner.
