What Is It With this Place?

Does everyone around here hang their guitars at the end of their bed and stare at it or to they actually play them? Man you would never know it looking around this place.

People post original music and they get zero responses, post a tune with GNR or any famous band it gets a hundred comments. Sure makes me wonder about this place.

The guitar ain't got shit to do with it boys, it's about the player and the music, remember that.

If I didn't know better this place is more about cliques than guitar and music. Anyway knock yourselves out I might check back in 6 months and see if anything has changed, but I'm not really optimistic about that.

sorry to hear, I always love to hear some original music and I have heard some really good stuff here....I know for myself that, I am not around here as much when my carpel is not hurting me and can practice....but, I think a lot of people have really helped each other to become better musicians through this means of communication...I would most humbly suggest you stay and do what you are saying by listening to other music and conversing with others and posting some of you own stuff....if I missed some of your music I am sorry, I tend not to be in this area of MLP all that often...and a lot of people hang out in one or a few areas more then others...all good...and peace

I can see where your coming from...I approached it differently....it is always hard to communicate emotions but the OP did seem a bit confrontational and that attitude is usually not the best....peace

False. The guitar DOES have its importance. This kind of "it's all in the hands" is overrated.

Thankfully my new pedal should be here in under 6 months:

Then I can finally take my guitar off the hanger at the end of my bed where I stare at it & actually play it....in hopes of impressing you if/when you return....but I'm not really optimistic about that!!

Actually, I went and listened to the clip he's posted in the Cellar, it's quite good. Pete, you might want to stick around and get a feel for the personality of the forum before you start threads admonishing us for not jumping all over your clips.

Here, same as the real world, name recognition counts for something. You're new, nobody knows you yet. There's a bunch of people who can post up in the Cellar who get a decent response.

Awesome! I'm assuming 'Ego' is volume ... and 'Tone' is self explanatory ... not sure about the others ... maybe 'Talent' should be a overdrive (sh*t players *always* sound better with some gain) and 'Chops' could control the level of compressor/sustain applied ...

OP: Hey, I posted my MySpace link a while back but got no responses. No big deal - they were pretty average recordings anyway. For me, this forum's about enjoying talking and learning from other people who dig the same musical instrument, artists, pickups, whatever - it's all good.

Im not even interested in looking up this guys music, I've posted original recordings here and got little to no response, c'est la vie, I didn't make a thread to bitch about it.

I play guitar 2+ hours everyday, recording 2 to 3 days a week, I don't need some clown challenging my dedication to my instrument and music. I dont need to post a alot of threads and get a bunch of "likes" to validate myself

OP, if you want my input on some original music, leave me a VM. It's always my pleasure to give a listen. This place is huge, and I miss hundreds of threads a day. I don't make a point of checking every Cellar thread, as many of them are things I'd rather find on my own or are bad fakes of someone miming yet another GnR tune.

Exactly, I am guilty of hanging around in areas of VERY current interest. Lately, I have been into wiring, caps and PUPs. Few weeks ago, I posted some jamming on one of River's tracks so I was hanging out in here more. Prior to that, pedals...you get the idea.

Next, the title of the post makes a huge difference as to what I spend my time checking out. Marketing baby! I only have a few minutes each day to hang out here, so I spend my time as efficiently as possible and only check threads that are titled to catch my interest. I rarely watch youtubes of famous guitarists/bands on this site (unless it is a cool old blues player or maybe Cab Calloway!

) Frankly, I am quite good with the youtube search funtion.

Posting originals is a tough thing to do. You are not going to get a hundred comments. You will get some and if five people comment and they like it, that probably means at least 50 more liked it that did not make a comment. You still reached those 50 people with your music. Far more than if you just played in your underwear and boots in the dorm like the photo above!

Posting originals or putting your music out there in any format is risky if you are too tied to it emotionally. Grow some Rhino skin and enjoy life...

Or, just go. Your choice.

Dude, all I'm gonna say is, there's a lot of backpatting here. If you aren't agreeing with the "in crowd" well, you won't have much fun here. I could go into a semi-ironic character study of your average MLP poster but I don't have my the patience to deal with the torrent of flamey responses such a piece would illicit. Just trust me on this one.
