Re: Now Available " Over the Pond " M69 English Rings !!!

I work for a plastics injection molding company. I tried to tell them there was good business in making this kind of stuff, the powers that be just didn't get it. Pisses me off every time I see this stuff!! I gotta buy my own press!!!

It's quite a process to get these made !!! Took over 2 years to get it done !!! I hear that it's not easy working with the particular type of material these are made from either !!!

Re: Now Available " Over the Pond " M69 English Rings !!!

I work as a set-up tech, which means I do the mold-changes and get the next job up and running for production. You give me a good press, a quality mold to work with, and good material, I can do it. ABS plastic is one of the easiest to work with. Granted, modern ABS's are way better than the 50's stuff, but still. We do a lot of work for medical companies, believe me, you have to be exact with those parts. Pickup rings would be an absolute joy in comparison.

The hard part would be getting the mold cut just right, I.E. getting the ejector pin marks in all the right spots, getting the markings just right. It's irritating, because the owner of the company could hand-tool a mold for this with his eyes closed, but the man is a skin flint. No way would he undertake something like this.

The aging process would be damned good business for our assembly department, too.

I believe the material they are made of is celloid acetate butrate ( no idea if i spelled that right ) Which I heard is not made anymore or at least very hard to obtain and work with due to some of it's properties !!!

It's not rocket science. Like I said, give me a good press and a good mold, it can be done. The process can be adjusted to accomodate any material. We could easily have a 2-tierd sales approach. A full vintage ring made of the CAB material, and a less expensive ABS ring from the same mold. It would have all the right markings, just be made of a better modern material. We do this kind of thing all the time.

Next week we are sampling new materials for an old powder measure hopper used for bullet reloading, we usually make it out of a material called San Tyrell. The mold is over 30 years old, and we are trying new material to compensate for the mold's deterioration. The customer doesn't want to pay to have the mold refurbished.

I dont have Historic rings anymore !!! I do have a picture comparing them to the DMC rings !!!

The OTP rings are on the guitar and the DMC are not .. As you can see the DMC is too pink ( Historic rings are even pinker ) Not to mention the DMC are only aged a bit on the tops on the backside they look brand new !!!

Re: Now Available " Over the Pond " M69 English Rings !!!

OK Thanks to the OTP MLP Clown here are my OTP Rings!

I did some comparison shots next to the stock historic rings.

the pinky ones are the historics, the OTP's are more bone color.

Vintage Clone Installed, OTP on top of the strings, Stock on the pickguard:

The OTP match the VC pickguard best but they are different enough like the real ones. So they will look great together!

Re: Now Available " Over the Pond " M69 English Rings !!!

Some members who were asking about OTP rings keep voicing the same concern ( Do the OTP rings have puckering like some of those other brands ??? ) Absolutely NOT !!! The quality control is superb on these as is the aging !!! I am posting a few MACRO shots to show some of the inside detail of the rings and the side walls of the ring where people fear the plastic can pucker .... OTP is Pucker Free

Retrospec-guitar

I don't know why all the concern anyway.

The pucker can clearly be seen on the originals!

I have bought and sold many sets of Original M69 Rings as well as have owned several 50's Les Pauls with original M69 rings.

I have been selling the English rings for over three years and the pucker varies
from set to set as it did on Vintage originals.

If anyone else here has or has owned original M69 rings please chime in.

Just an observation, but Bobbo has a thread in the Vintage section showing about 20-30 bursts, and I don't recall seeing one with a puckered ring...
