If you are into vintage Gibson gear you just might find this video interesting. It shows the buffing process Gibson used for P.A.F. pickup covers. The buffing process itself is an important part of the vintage look of ThroBak MXV P.A.F. pickup covers. I feel very lucky that this local shop still carries on with the same hand process they did for Gibson Kalamazoo for decades.

If you are looking for a great P.A.F. reproduction or just need a great reproduction pickup cover check them out! www.throbak.com

Re: ThroBak Electronics *Sponsor*

I have gotten quite a few inquiries about this set and decided it was time to post the information. This Custom MXV P.A.F. repro set was developed early this summer at the request of three high profile custom guitar makers. It's based upon the last short magnet P.A.F.s reproduced. The magnets used are ThroBak custom cast, USA made, short A5 magnets that use a vintage Gibson Alnico formulation still on file at the magnet maker. These short A5 magnets give a nice fat mid dominant tone that is very satisfying for rock tones. This specific A5 formulation has none of the harsh high end many associate with some A5 magnets. The resistances are 8.4K bridge and 7.6K neck making them perfect for bridge lead tones and fat but detailed neck tones.

I don't really have a name for this set yet but just reference this post when ordering. I had been holding off on putting info about this set on the site but the Joe Bonamassa videos below in which the set is in use in the custom guitar Joe is playing, have generated some interest so I'm hoping this will answer some questions about the ThroBak Custom MXV P.A.F. set in Joe's guitar.

The great guitar player and instructor Allen Hinds shot some video of the SLE+101 Plus MXV in action. He did a wonderful job of really showing how touch sensitive and articulate the SLE-101 Plus MXV set is. The unoriented A5 magnets in the SLE-101 Plus MXV set give them an amazing vintage tone and feel that is also suitable for more progressive playing styles.

DC DOES NOT EQUAL OUTPUT. Dc is a resistance value and that is all. It WILL NOT tell you what it will sound like, it WILL NOT make you sound like another player.
