Jonesy (or anyone)- what is the difference between 195P & 196P caps? I have seen .022 & .015 Vitamin Qs for sale that are 196P.

EDIT- now I just saw another listing for 139P Sprague .022 caps that otherwise look pretty much the same as the other ones... aggh! Is there a list somewhere that compares the difference? What do those specs mean?

The 196P are marked vitamin Q, the 195P are paper in oil mil spec, the 139P's are excellent polypropylene caps like orange drops. 160P's black beauty & 157P's tan beauties are PIO as well. Some caps are civilian and some are made for military. All sound really good in audio applications. The PIO are basically made of layers of aluminum foil and oil saturated paper.

The Sprague Bumble bee caps from the 50's were paper in oil as well. These newer caps are in metal cases with glass sealed ends. I have some Russian military K-series PIO caps on the way that are aluminum/oil saturated paper, metal case, glass sealed ends.
I put a pair of those Russian caps in my 79' Paul and they sound really warm
and have very similar audio properties of the Sprague PIO caps. Hope that helps clear things up for you?

Yes thanks- I want to get PIO- tonally, is there a difference between the 195P/196P, or is it just a matter of milspec being tighter tolerances?

If this is too off topic for your sales thread I can follow up via PM or take elsewhere in forum. I'm agonizing between your caps & some pricier ones that are supposedly custom made for guitar tone applications for my 79 LP with SH-8 Invader in bridge & Super D in neck.

No it's all good bro, feel free to buy wherever you want and asking questions is good so you know what your are getting. I have always done my best to educate the public on caps wiring etc.

There may be a slight formula difference in the oil, but basically it is mineral oil. I am not sure if your ear could tell the difference between a 195P and 196P? A lot of the PIO caps will all be in the same Tonal range.

Your stock ceramic disc caps and the green and red chilet caps in many guitars will sound inferior compared to ANY good quality PIO caps.

Just took out the little Red chiclet cap that came stock in this 2003 American Strat and installed one of the Sprague HYREL .022's PIO Caps. Big difference in Tone, smoother and warmer for sure. Off to band practice now to to try it out Live...

Hey Jonesy, will those be K40Y-9 Russian Caps? I have had very good results from those in three guitars and will soon do a 4th. Recommend them highly.

Hey that's great to hear, I actually have two kinds of the Russians arriving soon K42Y-2 K40Y9 0.022 uF the K42's are silver/grey case and the K40's are green case and a little smaller if I remember right? I put a pair of the K40's in my 79' Gibson and they sounded sweet...

I believe the colors are the other way round, the K42s are green and smaller, while the K40s are silver. But yeah I really like those K40Y9's. Bet you sell a bunch.

You are probably correct about the color, the ones I put in the 79'were silver. I have heard a lot of good things about them and have been using mostly the Spragues. I will post some pics of them when they get here

Taking orders for harness's now, to busy to try and build extras. Please allow 3-4 weeks to build and ship. 500k CTS Pots, .022 Sprague PIO Tone Caps, bleed kits.
