Same Sprague Tone caps, but I print up the brown paper labels, wax pot the ends, red cloth on leads. MLPF members $30 a pair...I think they look right at home in the Reissues etc. My Relic'd take on the wax and paper caps used up until 56', 57' then they were replaced by the Bees...

Thanks, jonesy

Re: Vitamin Q Tone Caps .015 &.022 Special Offer For MLPF Members

I ordered the bleed kit, a .015 for the neck, and a .022 for the bridge on Saturday. They shipped Monday, I got them Wednesday, and had them installed today ($10 at my local shop). I wasn't sure what exactly to expect. What I was hoping is that it would take the sound of my 2007 Epi LP Standard +top to the next level. I'm one of the few who actually really likes the stock pickups in the Epis. I think mine sounded nice but a sterile. It was just missing that little extra shimmer. I've been playing with it with the new caps for about 1/2 an hour now and I can say that they gave me the extra I was looking for. It has that little extra that really grabs the ear. I got what I was hoping and more. Definately worth the change.

I did notice that with the .015 in the neck pickup it keeps the pickup sounding nice and clear with the tone rolled off but it also seems to have less of a range on the tone control from high to low. It could be that it's just the mud is gone. The sound with the volume rolled off now stays clear although it does seem like the first part of the volume knob 0-1 or 2 doesn't really do anything anymore. It doesn't really kick in until about 3. I'm also noticing a little bit of noise (think mild single coil noise) with the tone controls all the way up when I select only one of the pick-ups. No noise in the middle position. I'm not sure if this is normal with the change or if something is up with the soldering job. Maybe I'm hearing this as a result of the lower quality stock pots. I'll have to play with this some more before I decide if I need to do something about it.

Overall I am thrilled with the change in the tone of my guitar. It really gave it that extra shimmer that was missing. I've now spent $50 for a custom bone nut and setup and $43 for the caps and installation. This $93 took the Epi to entirely new levels. It was a nice guitar. Now its fantastic. I'll post an update after I've had more playing time with the caps. My opinion now is that if you are thinking of making this upgrade do it! Thanks Jonesy!

Update after playing around with it for a few more hours. It keeps sounding better and better. It has that missing sweetness now. Whatever was causing the noise is gone. It just stopped and everything is now nice and quite like it should be. The change in the volume controls is remarkable. I can back off the volume and the tone remains, it just gets softer. Before the volume knobs really affected the tone. There is definitely a much bigger difference than I thought there would be.

I finally got around to removing the selector switch "Rythm-Treble" disk and the pickguard last night. I think I can stick a fork in this LP and call it done.

Thanks again Jonesy!

If you have the caps and can solder I would put them in with the stock pickups. You might find you no longer need replacements. At the very least it will sounds much better while you wait for the new ones.

How much would it cost about to get a short shaft SG rig? Just curious.

Re: Vitamin Q Tone Caps .015 &.022 Special Offer For MLPF Members

Hey Jonesy,
I'm trying to install the volume bleed kit and i'm a bit lost.

Are there specific lugs I should be soldering it to on the volume pots?

because there are three lugs on my volume pot and i'm not really sure which to weld to...

a bit of help would be greatly appreciated

Ok, I usually include a little drawing that shows you how? You connect to the two hot lugs, center and what is actually the right side lug(left while looking back at it) these lugs will have wires going to them. Call me if you are still stuck 1-574-806-4118
