1948 REO SPEEDWAGON truck

A few years ago I stumbled across this 1948 REO SPEEDWAGON pickup truck in a salvage yard. I offered the owner $200 for both sets of emblems off of the hood, but he wouldnt sell them. I think he was only wanting $1800 for the whole truck. If I had the money I wouldve bought it. Anyway, REO motor company which was the initials of the founder (Ransom E. Olds) made everything from lawn mowers to ice cream trucks to fire engines after the second world war. And of course we all know the band that took the name for there own.

That's cool. As a huge REO fan that would be a cool trophy.

Mojo, that's funny!

Thanks!
Nice pics. I can't blame the truck owner for not wanting to sell the emblams seperatly. They really should stay with the truck. Hopefully someone has purchased and will restore the truck.

Heck, the band should buy it and use it for promotional purposes.
Hmm, some version of them still exists too:

Re: 1948 REO SPEEDWAGON truck

I saw them here in wichita at a small venue about 10 years ago, they started and stopped at least 4 times in the first half hour with instrument/technical issues. It was kind of sad to see a band of that past greatness reduced to a bad club act.

Re: 1948 REO SPEEDWAGON truck

Hi,
First time poster here, inspired by a great coincidence and a possible deal. I just ran across your post (loaded six string) about finding the Speedwagon in a salvage yard and your attempts to get the emblems. Just yesterday my bandmate and I were discussing what to do with this old REO Speedwagon hood we discovered on the farm we bought last year (huge spread in the mountains of British Columbia with a number of old trucks and farm equipment scattered throughout). We thought it might be of use to someone and, voila...

Are you still interested in the emblems? The hood appears similar to the pictures I see of late 40's, early 50's models of the Speedwagon. (See attached photos of the emblems and hood and the link to a picture of one that's similar to what we've found). If so, we'd be happy to part with them for the same $200 you offered before. We can use some new gear more than the emblems at this point! The serial number for the truck is 55R7380, which probably indicates it was a 1955 model, but I'm not sure. You can contact me at jimcapellini@gmail.com

Let me know. We're in BC but can mail them to you wherever, or wait until we get back to the States in November to send them (we're US living in BC seasonally.)

Hey, since I'm posting here, may as well mention the bands I'm involved with. Check out Shri Blues Music - Festival, Club and Concert Appearances and Festival Blues Rock Band Lee Lozowick Project to see the folks I toured Bengal, India with back in Jan of '08 as the keyboardist. Toured with Shri for 12 years every summer in Europe (tech hand) too.
