Singing
Can anyone direct me to anywhere that can inform me more about singing; I tend to practice it everyday but I still suck. I have a very stupid voice.
I hear singing is just something u can or can't do. I don't think I can do it, and I dunno if it can really be teached cos most people who can sing seem to just genrelly have an amazing voice. ![]() Anyway I write / record alot and I'm tired of my vocals being the low point of all my songs; I wanna know how to really sing but it seems so complex cos u need to sing different for rock and mellow stuff etc. MVL.

Re: Singing
If you can't get a local vocal coach (which I highly suggest) you can try this:
Unleash Your Inner Idol-the Soundtech SingingCoach*|*Gear Diary I've had vocal training from 8 years old until high school. I was an all-state tenor my senior year, and probably could have done more with my voice had I gone to college right out of high school. Unfortunately, my Dad didn't support the "artsy fartsy" stuff so much, so I joined the Air Force instead. I still sing in church and in any bands I play in--high harmony is my specialty, and I have a built in ability to match the singer's timbre and vibrato. I could be better if I trained more--just too lazy. ![]() Oh--I sing our National Anthem at occasional events, as well. ![]() Hope that helps, man! BB

Re: Singing
I'd suggest getting somebody local cause you need to have someone clearly point out when your using improper form etc. Also, you gotta start not feeling that you have a stupid voice. Unless your tone def you can practice your singing just like any other instrument. A lot of it is muscle memory.

Re: Singing
Anyone can learn how to sing. You might not have the nicest sounding voice, but the skill itself can be learned.
![]() Best advice I ever got as a singer was to not listen to or to try an emulate singers who have a different voice type than you. You gotta do whats in your range and work with what you've got! |

Re: Singing
Voice coaches can do miracles,
if you can hold a tune, you have a good chance of being a good singer if you cant stay on tune its a lost cause

Re: Singing
This is a huge cliche, but the voice is definately like an instrument. Luckily with guitar we are provided the frets in which all notes can be played. We are all individually limited or gifted in certain ranges whether low or high, or both. IMO, as Coldsteal said, if someone can't carry a tune at all, or is tone-deaf, there is no hope. If you are capable of staying in key, whether low or high ranges, practice and even coaching can make someone more solid with vocals. What better place to practice than in the car? Thats my favorite place. I am certainly more apt to let loose a bit more in my car than at home(not that college chic sing along to Dave Matthews shit!!!!). I with purpose test my range both low and high to see what my limits are. Don't get me wrong, I'm way more of a guitarist than I am a singer, but those basic things have made me way more solid of a singer.

Re: Singing
I like your basic breathing exercises. Your tummy should expand to its max when you inhale. Take soft, easy, long breathes though your nose as to not dry out your vocal cords. Exhale slowly though your mouth. After a while your going to feel light head...good. Then start doing basic chords like Bb (B flat). It's cool and it works after some practice.
