Not only that but, like Loki said, there are some things that you just can't teach a teenager because they won't listen. I'd rather them hate me and live than let them do as they wish and get raped or murdered.

The internet as we know it was new when I was a teen, and my sister ended up getting involved with some predators. Some bad shit happened, a couple of guys went to jail, and she's probably very lucky things didn't turn out worse for her. My mom just didn't know what a real threat the internet could be. No parent did back then.

Now I'm not gonna lock my kids up through their teen years, but I'm going to ask lots of questions about where they're going and who they're going to be with. Part of that, I realize, is creating a relationship where your kids aren't scared to tell you the truth. Boy... it's going to be a lot of work...

I agree 100% with you...The internet was new when I was 21 I am also the last generation to have party line phones, rotary dial phones and the micro wave was new. I can remember the newness of a cordless phone, the luxury of more than 3 channels

Yep! I remember when we hooked up cable and had 9 channels thinking 'how can anyone get bored with this?'

The internet wasn't something you could have in your home until I was out of high school, and even then I remember the first thing I looked for were boobs... at less than 14k. It took over an hour to download a decent sized picture and you never knew what you were going to get.

This is a good question. These are issues that will presumably keep parents up at night. I'm not a parent, so I don't write from experience. My suggestion is that you make the choice to either have fun with these sluts or ignore them. At your age, you shouldn't be worrying about parenting. I might see a little bit of concern for society, but promiscuity is timeless. There will always be sluts and there will always be parents (whether negligent or responsible) who will be shamed by their children's choices.

Yeah, I grew up out in the middle of nowhere. First place we lived in was a manufactured home with fake wood paneling and flimsy brown shag carpet. We had a huge fir tree right in front of the place with our TV antenna mounted up in the top of it. I remember my dad having to go outside and climb the tree to adjust it when the weather wasn't great.

My family was pretty isolated and backwoods, for sure. We had one of these phones, ffs:



I remember jars of brains in the fridge, for tanning hides... remember my mom picking up roadkill for the skins... even a porcupine once to make jewelry from the quills. I bet not too many people round here pictured me growing up in a house like that.

May I ask how old both of your daughters are?

As I said above mine will turn 16 soon, and although I admire your thoughts, it is impossible to police them 24x7 anyway so they can do things when you are not there, in friends houses etc etc. I prefer to talk to mine about such so she realises where her boundaries are, and not just because I am telling her so.
