How good are you at simple math????
Three men are leaving work to go home for the night. It's an incredibly stormy night and they decide it might be best to spend the night at a motel across the street from their workplace. To save money, they decide to share a room.
The desk clerk informs the men that the room rate is $30. Each man pitches in $10 - to make the $30. Shortly after the men leave to go to their room, the desk clerk notices that he overcharged the men. The rate should have been only $25. He instructs the bell boy to refund to the men the $5 that he overcharged them. He gives the bellboy five $1 bills to give to the men. On the way to the room, the bellboy realizes that he does not know how to evenly divide the $5 amongst three men, so he decides to keep $2 for himself (pockets it) and return the remaining $3 to the men. Now......each man originally forked out $10 each (for the $30). Each man gets a $1 refund - so, each man forked over $9 ($10 less the $1 refund). So....3 men, $9 each - that's $27 (3 times 9). The bellboy pocketed $2. $27 plus $2 comes to $29. What happened to the other $1 ????? |

Re: How good are you at simple math????
its because the maths is being dune the wrong way round, i cant remeber what way its meant to go but theres a formula that the maths has to be set out for
like adding the subtracting then deviding like 10+10+10=30 30-5=25 motel gets 25 5-2/3=1 bell boy gets his 2 the mean get 1, maths runs in a structure and ever maths problem needs to be used that way of course i could be wrong but thats what my school tort me

Re: How good are you at simple math????
ok here's what happened...they did pay $27
9*3 = 27 = 25 (room) + 2 (bell boy) and they got 3 back 1 each so it's like this 3 men times $9 = $27 paid room (25) plus theiving bell boy (2) = $27 $27 + the change ($3) = 30.... and this all works because the $27 includes the $2 the bell boy took....leaving only the change they got which adds up to $30...this is just clever wording....to make you think math doesn't work I still think half of 10 is 5.5..... 11111 | 11111 there are 10 ones and the middle denoted by | is between the 5th and 6th therefore 5.5 see 12345 | 67890 11111 | 11111 ..........5.5 |

Re: How good are you at simple math????
They paid $27, $25 to the room and $2 to the Bell Boy, then the bell boy gave them back the other 3 making 30. Its just how you spin the math. Funny though it had me thinking a second.
It's like when you go to the diner with a bunch of friends and that one a**hole doesn't put in the right amount for tax and tip.

That is different from 10/2. It's just different ways of looking at numbers. It can get very complicated. |

I know that......just from a graphical sense it looks like where the 5.5 would be is the middle.......it was just a bad joke.....one I use when I'm drinking a little and the people I'm with had a lot more than i have......it makes me look smart and they feel slow...or extra drunk....
