Superdrag.

Loved 'em.

Saw them in a shitty dive bar in Columbus, OH - called Bernie's.

These guys were huge on MTV when I was a kid - then they fell off the face of the earth.

"The Hit"

Terrible recording - good song. This is the first half of the song:

2nd half - different crappy gig!

Another song that I really like: (was never released)

I'm just glad they're still out there touring, despite falling off the map 15 years ago.

Saw The Rasberries at the Sunset Blvd. House Of Blues. Eric Carmen at one time had a serous set of pipes on him. Age messes with your vocal chords especially for guys that used to sing in the higher registers. Catchy tunes they had.

Saw the Raspberries when they were still based in Cleveland. Another similar type of band that I liked in the 70s was Artful Dodger. They had a few good tunes like Wayside, It's Over, and Scream.

I saw A Flock Of Seagulls once. And I also saw the Romantics too. Same stage, same day.

Oh you youngens get it straight. Head East was big in the late 70's. Heres another hit that comes to mind. You may not recall it but it was a biggie.

BTW the Raspberries were a two hit wonder. Loved both of their hits.

Well no shit, I thought that was a Rainbow song. Never knew it was a cover. I remember the other Head East song very well from my childhood, great song.

I'm sorry if I missed the reason why you put this into the area about "one hit wonders". But you are right that it has been a very long time since the Raspberries had any particular presence on the music scene before their 2004 reunion tour. I did not attend the Sunset Strip show or any on that tour and could only judge from third party tellings that the vocals were not as well represented here as on some of the other shows. But, it is this show that was recorded by prior arrangement and has resulted in a live CD/DVD.

In addition to this concert series, Eric Carmen with and without Raspberries has performed in Cleveland for two specific events, one being the highly touted Les Paul Tribute concert held shortly prior to Les Paul's death. It was quoted and I paraphrase that Eric Carmen, the lead singer and prominent composer of the Raspberries' hits, felt it to be the highest honor of his career to pay homage to his guitar hero. Acknowledging that without Les Paul, recorded music would not be anything like it has become, he felt it a favor to have been invited to perform. And all the reports I hear about Eric Carmen's voice are very positive.

Here is a promo video of the Sunset CD/DVD where the band is performing several of their hits.

I saw the O'Neders....no, that was a movie....never mind!
I have seen the guy who wrote the song 'Treat Her Right'; he was playing bass with Dale Watson.

Don't know if they qualify as "one hit wonders" but Gin Blossoms
at Metro in '93??
Awesome 2 guitar attack, plus the concert is available on DVD.
Great show, perhaps a dozen or so Red Stripes had an influence.

I think if they've had more than one hit then they don't qualify.

Here is an example of a one hitter.

It wasn't a Rainbow song or a Head East song. It was Russ Ballards song
(Guitarist for Argent) The Rainbow version is the best but I won't post it here because they have more than one hit.

It was a hit for Head East in 1977. When did Russ Ballard (I have no idea who that is)do it?

Em...Zebra, quite a bit, though they produced an album or two, I can't recall if any of their songs were actually hits. Anyone...Beuller?

I thought their Zeppelin and Rush covers were quite good though.

Yes it looks like several bands had their way with that song. Just goes to show it's the songwriting, not the artist that determines a good song.

Re: Ever see a 1 hit wonder band live??

I played a festival outside of Philly in the mid-70s and a band called The Illusion came down from Long Island to headline the show. They had a regional hit with a song called 'Did You See Her Eyes' that was pretty good. I'll never forget that they backed a Ryder truck up to the stage and loaded 6 full Marshall stacks onto the stage - everybody played through Marshalls, even an electric piano. I think I was 16 at the time, and that was the biggest stage rig I'd ever seen in my life. And the band rocked like crazy.

They put out two albums. The first one (with the hit) was self-titled, the second called 'If It's So' that had a song on it called 'Let's Make Each Other Happy' which got some local airplay. I always expected them to break big, but it never happened.

'Wait Until the Summer's Gone' was their best tune - that was the one they used to play in their radio ads for clubs like Speaks and Detroit up in Westchester and BAB used to play it quite a bit..

I hated that one about bears hibernating.
