Re: Aussies lost their minds?
I have heard of this "delicacy" and find it sounds fairly bad, but this new product iSnack 2.0 really has caused a stir in the press.............. seems like ya'll take yer brewers yeast extract paste stuff serious.
But we always had salt and spices, I heard the food there was even worse before Vegamite came out.

Re: Aussies lost their minds?
I just read an article on the whole iSnack 2.0 flap, and was rolling on the floor, it's just like our New Coke, Classic Coke stir in the 80's.

The Taswegians can make a good beer. Cascade is comparable to your mass produced Kiwi beers. But the good beers are all boutique, like James Squire or Matilda Bay, or Little Creatures. Acually, I take that back about the big breweries. One of them does a beer that is surprisingly good: Hahn Premium lager. It's actually got some Saaz nose to it. A nice little Czech style lager. But that's it.

Marmite's for sheila's
![]() The trick with vegemite is to spead it thin. Too much and it's ![]() Seriously, there wouldn't be many Aussies that didn't eat Vegemite. We all grow up on the stuff.

Go out and find a jar of Vegemite Boles. Better than Viagra. You'll be walking around like a dog trying the root a tennis ball in no time

But I don't see why I should have to drink shit beer in a country that produces superb malt, just because some cretin in Victoria decided that Pride of Ringwood is the only hops to use. For fuck's sake! ![]() The only circumstances under which the aroma-less, bitter-only beers make sense is when it's stinking friggin hot and humid. Like in Darwin during the buildup, for instance. Then you get one of these beers, and get it nice and cold so you can't taste the fuckin thing, and it goes down like lolly water leaving a lingering bitterness on the palate, which merely invites you to pour another. You'll notice that all the beers from the hotter and more humid Asian countries follow this style. Bintang, Kingfisher, etc. Bitter, no aroma, light malt, bitterly cold. You don't want to drink an ESB when it's 38 C and 100% humidity. But otherwise, these beers are a waste of fuckin' space.

Re: Aussies lost their minds?
I've been drinking Hahn light beer.It hasnt got the horrible after taste of the other aussies beers.
Beer from NZ is alot nicer.Like Tui or DB Export. Japanese beer is the best I have ever had.

I like my VB, but then again I like beer very cold. My favourite beer however would be this. It's just expensive is all.

Japanese beer, mmmmmmmm.. Asahi, Kirin and Sapporo drank lot's of those in Japan.
So you say ya'll are weened from the tit on vegemite, every country has it's "weird" food that everyone craves. I liked Oz when I visited in 97, Rockhampton in QLD, would love to come back some day.

Re: Aussies lost their minds?
Had some for brekkie this morning!! Hot toast, well done, smear of butter then a THIN smear of Vegemite. Mmmmmmmmmm, now that's breakfast.
As for this cheese & Vegemite stuff - Aussie school kids (& grown ups!!) have been eating it for years. The trick is to use a thin smear of Vegie on the bread and use extra bitey tasty cheese. Bega Cheese is the bomb for this. And Boles - Marmite is for girls!! If you say you prefer Marmite over here you'll get laughed at. Vegemite is the real thing. |
