Death Metal Kids. Angry Emo?

Good or bad for the youths of the day that listen to this?

They seem like angry Emo kids.

Re: Death Metal?

If they don't listen to Death Metal's roots first, I think that it is bad. People that progressively listen to harder and harder things can at least appreciate what came before. I am not a fan of death metal, because I don't like the shouting and detuned guitars, I like thrash...

I know kids who listen to all the death metal stuff who have no idea who Sabbath or Zeppelin are, in which case it is sad that they listen to all that without knowing the Greats.

Re: Death Metal?

who's sitting on the pickup truck bed strumming their acoustic?

oh ya, your question: Death Metal
You know, I listend to metal when I was a kid, Sabbath, Maidon, Priest, etc.
A few Sabboth songs had a few evil type lyrics. I tried to "like" Grim Reaper
cuz the cover of "See You In Hell" was soo cool! but, I couldnt get into them.

But death metal, honestly, I dont listen to.
To much screaming & discombooberated guitar solo's. IMO!

I think it depends on the kid listening, some are more influential
than others. To me music is entertainment, some kids seem to
take things a bit to serious - IMO - and focus on the negatives.

My parents probably thought I was a bit strange, wanted to paint my
room black when I was 13, etc. But they trusted my judgement. And
no, they didnt let me paint my room black which totally pissed me off.

I think it's bad, just like gangsta rap, techo, disco and tejano music.

Re: Death Metal?

I don't think you can say that a whole, very diverse musical genre such as 'Death Metal' can be good, bad or otherwise.

I'm not too keen on the original death stalwarts such as Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse and Obituary. What I do like though is some of the most diverse and well composed metal music coming from the sub-genres of death: Technical/Progressive/Jazz Death coming from the likes of Opeth, Cynic, Atheist and Nile; Melodic Death, started by Carcass and carried on by the Gothenburg bands; Death/doom from Paradise lost, etc.

Some of the best rock musicians of our day are playing in these bands and it's shortsighted to place them all in the same basket as the more Satanic, occultist leaning Blackened death metal acts.

I also think as musicians we shouldn't restrict ourselves to listening to one or two types of music, whatever they might be. Therein lies the stagnation of music and it's limitless possibilities.

Re: Death Metal?

I like old school death metal :P (Death, Cancer, Obituary, Messiah, Chemical Breath, Atheist etc.)
and deaththrash of course (Solstice, Demolition hammer, etc.)

But this new stuff with the overacting grunts and kiddie screams suck...

Re: Death Metal?

Music is music. I dont think it really hurts anybody or really making them change their life with a big bad decision. This is coming from a 15 year old in the middle of high school. My freinds like alternative and death metal and they dont think too much about it though.

It will however give them bad taste in music which is probably the worst thing that can happen to a person...

You tell em Axe

And in response to your post, IDK. I suppose back in the day the Beatles were perceived as being a bad influence on our youth. I suppose, like most things it depends on what our youth decides to take from it.

Re: Death Metal?

i'm not into it. i don't understand the appeal. i don't think it's "bad" for anyone to listen to either. i personally prefer to listen to music with some substance, but you're not going to find music with substance most places you look.

p.s. if '80s rocker is 15 then he was born in 1994... what makes him an '80s rocker?

Well techinically I am not, but I think its the music and the heart in the music that really counts

P.S. the ' goes after the 0 not before the 8.

Re: Death Metal?

I am 20, I am a death metal fan, have been for years, I love all kinds of metal, particularly thrash, death and black. I love almost all other kinds of music, rock, blues, folk, prog, not jazz though, lol, death metal fans tend to be nice guys, its the wee emo pricks you need to watch out for, not all of them, but most I've met have been intolerant, boring and unwilling to listen to anyone elses opinion. Death metal is not the problem, the people who take it too seriously are the problem.
