Per Wikipedia: "Bach confirmed in an interview with the band that he does not want the Velvet Revolver gig due to his close relationship with Axl Rose."

They may as well get back with Axl again, call themselves Guns'n'Roses as well, and perform both Guns and Velvet songs while recording new material.

Slash wrote in his book that Bach had already tried before hiring Scott. The legend said that they sounded too much like "Skid Roses" than anything else.

ie: They sounded more of the same. Not what the VR guys were looking for!
