Close...Clapton actually gave his seat to SRV because Stevie felt ill after their concert and wanted to go back to Chicago by air instead of driving back with brother, Jimmy Vaughan. Clapton's manager, publicist and bodyguard died with SRV. Don't you think Clapton is still freaked out even 18 years later...

dam if that don't sound way to much like what happend to buddy holly, richie valens, and jp richardson.

i think it was waylon jennings(who was playig bass for holly) who gave up his seat to richie valens because valens was sick and couldn't face another long ride in february on a freezing tour bus with no heater.
