That's awesome! Congrats!

I missed Buddy the last time he came through for Austin City Limits, though I had a chance to go. Still kicking myself!

Re: Seeing Buddy Guy tonight!!

ehhhh. not to burst your bubble but i seen him about 10 times since 85 and its aways the same exact show. if he plays he plays if not he'll stand their strumming the guitar with a handkercheif telling stories of how muddy used to slap him upside the head and how he taught ec this and jimi that and SRV this other thing.

its like buddy play the god dang geetar if i want a history lesson i cant read in the GW

the last time i saw him in 05 some heckler pissed him off and he walked off the stage after 50 minutes and never came back. paid $65 for that shit. there was a lynch mob looking for that drunk. they had to give him a police escort outta town

one time arund 1989 in the old paramount in NYC he walked around and i was on the end seat and played not 4 inches from me for a good minute. that was cool

Re: Seeing Buddy Guy tonight!!

I fixed my post above.

I miss a show with him and BB King in Nashville earlier this year but money was a bit tight.

Re: Seeing Buddy Guy tonight!!

I love Buddy Guy the guitar player. I don't care for Buddy Guy the showman. I saw him years ago and he was just there to collect a paycheck. Just went through the motions like he was doing us a favor. Walked offstage after his short set, no encore, nothing.

I'm pretty sure he beat me out of the parking lot.

Re: Seeing Buddy Guy tonight!!

Yep, I agree with the mixed reviews. I saw Buddy Guy live at the Canberra Theatre in around 1991 or 2. When he shut up and played he was pretty good, but you could see he was holding himself back.

He did this LONG schtick where he demonstrated other guitarists styles - he'd play a few bars of Hendrix, Stevie Ray - and they were a good demonstration of different blues styles. However, this was an expensive concert at an upmarket theatre. It was more like he was just mucking about a lot of the time.

At the end he did a walk around playing his guitar, and that was fun, I guess. He actually walked out of the theatre and was playing in the foyer.

All around though I'd describe it as an average gig at best, not worth the money. He definitely did not play to his potential, and I know that I'd not bother to see him again, unless it was for free.
