Has anyone ever watched people do this before?

Re: Chainsaw Sculpting

There's a guy that does this locally. His workyard is right on a congested stretch of road so I get to watch him for a minute or two everyday while I'm stuck in traffic. Cool stuff.

ME too. I've seen guys literally do a sculpture in a matter of minutes...amazing work, too. I don't know if I could ever do this...but I admire people who do. Really cool stuff...

There's always somebody doing that at the fairs here in the Fall. It's fun to watch but you need to keep your distance cuz the 'fur' flies.

Re: Chainsaw Sculpting

I have a friend whose father does it. His name is Maxie Lane and he is quite well known over here. All his furniture is made from one single piece of timber, no joins. He would be very late eighties now. A real rogue. He would come round the pubs selling bits of funiture for beer money. I had a beautiful pair of little stools made from pear wood. Very rare. For fun he puts four metal caps from beer bottles betwen his fingers and crushes them flat. I saw him do that right into his eighties. He was a mad old bastard. He went into town for a Chinese meal and ordered steak. The steak was tough so he complained. The waitor said it was fine so Maxie went out to his car, got a chainsaw, came back into the restaurant and sawed through the steak, plate and table. The fucking place rioted. That was Maxie.

Re: Chainsaw Sculpting

There is a small town north of here that bills itself as the "Chainsaw Sculpture Capital of Canada" or some such thing. Looking briefly, I didn't actually find the slogan on their website, but they did have a link to some of the sculptures that are around town
