Guitar Hero

It's been out for awhile, alot of hype, and alot of hate. I know alot of musicians who hate the game, and some who absolutely love it.

But love it or hate it, it looks like it's here to stay, so, what do you think of it?

well... I think...

Personally, as a guitarist, I think it's kinda dumb, theres no room for any kind of creativity, and it seems like the same shit over and over again...well, thats my .02 anyway.

(I didn't see this as another post, but if I missed it, and there is another GH thread, plz don't flame me >.>)

Re: Guitar Hero

I think its worse than Karoke, Its really giving kids the wanna be syndrome as well as some adults, I understand there are now bars and restaraunts holding Guitar Hero contests Rewards for wanna be's? is that all about? all it and any other computer game teaches is how to beat a system program by a series of button strokes
like anywhere, Real heros dont look at themselves as such, they do what they know and work through and around difficult problems in extreme pressure situations by knowledge skill and abilities , I dont think thats something you can ever learn in any computer game

Re: Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero is a guitar simulator, just like their is sports simulators.

My personal favorite, is when your buddies are playing GH and then your behind them shredding the song on REAL guitar as they play it on the game.

I think its fun, but it shouldn't be taken too seriously.

ah crap i'm going to get flamed but I love this game
it's just damn fun

however, i've said this before and i'll probaly say it again when this topic comes out, I don't think it's a simulation for guitar.

The required actions ressembles a percussion like instrument.
Besides the shape similiarities, it has no realistic value to guitar players except maybe increasing finger dexterity while developing useless muscle memory.

haha nobody is gonna flame you for it. It is a fun GAME and that is all it is. I got it for Christmas a couple years back when I asked for a guitar... Funny joke mom!

I think it does work up your finger muscles though... Flame on for that statement if you want, but I think it loosened my hand up quite a bit. I beat Free Bird on Expert, that has to count for something right! right!?

Re: Guitar Hero

I used to hate it and be one of the "well f u i play real guitar!" people, but I'm also a gamer. I love my 360 and wii and pc games.. I've been a gamer my whole life.. I decided to try GH 3 instead of bashing it like the others.. and you know what? It's fun! Sure it's just a novelty, but it's a fun game... even people that can't play instruments will at least feel like they are making some music.. it's just a video game :P

Not a video game fan, how do you find the time?

I do have an x-box with one game, Flat Out, but have not played it in a year or so.

Re: Guitar Hero

Don't lover it or hate it. It is simply off my radar. Maybe add a third option on the poll?

I'd rather play Champion's of Norath or Baldur's Gate. Got a few real guitars and see no reason for Guitar hero in my home.
Fine for other's I guess since it will likely inspire some to try real guitar, but as other's have said, it may bring about false hopes. I do see lines of kids waiting to play at the Best Buy endcaps, so it must be popular.

Re: Guitar Hero

You should have added a "who cares" to the poll.

I've played the game before, it's pretty cool. It's not that easy either. I don't normally play any video games. I guess I'm too old for that stuff.

On the other hand, I go into my local guitar shop every once and a while, and I ask them, "what's hot?" They tell me they've been selling more "starter" guitars (guitar, amp, strap, etc.) than ever before. I asked them why. They told me that ALL the kids want to learn guitar BECAUSE OF GUITAR HERO.

Now granted it's tougher to play a real instrument than a toy. But if 100 kids buy a starter package and only 20 kids continue to play, that's 20 more kids that are learning the instrument than nothing.

The bottom line is because of this game, more kids are going to want to learn how to play real guitar. And isn't that what it's all about?

Re: Guitar Hero

Some people need to take it easy. It's fun, I own 2 and 3. It's not like I'm cheating on my Les Paul for a plastic one, but it's fun to play with friends. There are times you want to play guitar, and times you want to play video games. I look at it more as a video game than a guitar. Maybe some people who say they hate it need to play it while thinking of it as a fun game.

Re: Guitar Hero

Ok, flamers get ready. I think the game is a blast, but I love to game. During my break I stayed up until 3 am each night playing COD4. Anyway, here is the funny part. I blame GH3 for me going out and getting my LP. I have been without equipment for a while now and that stupid game made me realize I wanted to start playing again. I have talked about getting stuff for a while, but this game made me go out and get my new gear. I was playing the game remembering how much I loved to play, so I couldn't take it anymore. Without GH3, I would probably be gearless!

odd, you have the same guitar as me AND a similar story.
I probably would have picked up guitar eventually but because of the LP shaped controller, it led me to buy LP like guitar.

I've never played but I know more adaults that play than kids. A few I work with bought starter guitar kits because they said they got so good at GH that they might as well play for real. I am all for anyone wanting to play, but these guys have the attitude like they are going to conquer the guitar like they conquered GH.

GH is hand eye cordination with very little movement out of a general area of the GH git fiddle. I told those guys to take there time, have patience, study theory, practice, etc, etc. They told me they wanted to start off learning Stairway to Heaven, Welcome to the Jungle, Crazy Train, etc, etc

I'm guessing their starter kits will be on Ebay by summer

If I could get my step son to spend as much time playing his real guitar as he does GH I'd be one happy ass Rev.

Hey there are still just as many families who will still blow alot more than "starter kit" money for these guitar hero kids. Hopefully those types will provide some deals as well.

Re: Guitar Hero

i bought my 9 year old son an acoustic guitar so he can enjoy playing like his dad, never played it. i bought him a karaoke machine to musically inspire him , never used it. i bought him a drum set thinking this might musically inspire him, played them for a few days. I bought him GUITAR HERO III, now he plays his drums, guitar and sings for hours a day.
works for me.

I have it and its fun, but I don't play as much as my wife. She has since developed an appreciation for my practicing and the horrible sounds I make with my LP.
