Rory Gallagher

Just listening to some Rory Gallagher here folks and I know alot of you guys are heavily blues influenced... thought I'd throw up a post...

I know he was a fender man but I got to say he was one of my biggest heroes growing up... the man was a pure axe wielding genius... and the fact he was Irish adds a little something special for me...

Just putting out the question of what you guys thought of Rory as a player?

Cheers
Mikeeeeh

Re: Rory Gallagher

My brother was his bassist in his band in 90, not sure if he recorded
with him or just toured, he toured with lots of bands as a hired bassist
though, Tanya Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Lita Ford, Badfinger, John Mayall
and others.
He said that he was a super cool guy

My brother really got into our Irish Roots after playing
and hanging out with him, and picked up a Guiness habit haha.
I Love Rory's playing, my bro did to, he really likes tasty guitarists.
I wish i could have played with as many people as he did thats one
thing thats cool about being signed to a label, even if your band
splits up, they will find gigs for you, and hopefully they take.
Heres a photo of my Brother and my Dad and some of his
Gold and Platinim albums back in 87 i think

Yeah I can only imagine... I'd reckon getting to hang out with someone like Rory on the road and such would be an inspiring time indeed... and I can totally understand the Guinness habit... addicitive stuff... has been known to cause the beer belly effect... I'm living proof

Yea, i love the Guiness also!!, my daughter and her husband
lived in Ireland for 5 years, and my grandkids just moved
to LA from Waterford Ireland this summer. (my son in law was
born and raised in Waterford) my grankiddies lived thier
most of thier lives, (10 and 8) i was wanting to go over there before
they moved back over here. One of these days would love
to check it out. My grandfather was Irish.

Oh wow cool... I spent my college years in Waterford... great part of the country but I'll bet they experienced a big climate change moving to LA... I'm guessing the californian summers are a little "warmer" than Waterford's

On the Rory gallagher topic, here's a link to a relic copy of his guitar... nice and pricey and some serious aging!

Yea THEY ARE LOVING THE TEMPERATURE CHANGE!!
My g-kids are already learning to play guitar to.

Yea, that is one very easy to tell guitar there!! The first time
i saw it i thought it was Jimmi Hendrix's "Montery fire guitar"
His sound, almost sounds like he has a preamp in the guitar
but could be one of his stomp boxes. its a great sound

Re: Rory Gallagher

I knew about Rory Gallagher before I knew bout Gary Moore, who was one of Rory's Pallbearers , back in the mid 70s, He was smoking hot and definitly kicked both my Blues groove as well as my full blooded Irish pride up
We are at at a big losss for no longer having him, but we are blessed to still have the gift of the music and memories he left behind

Re: Rory Gallagher

An Irish mate of mine ,Bob Hayes, put me onto Rory in the late sixties.
Brilliant! It always amazes me that a small Country like Ireland produces such a large proportion of Great musicians,Rory and Gary to name but Two.
Not just great rock guitarists but the Mighty Lennon and MacCartney both
had Irish Blood.

I know he had a ranch on The Mull of Kintyre in Scotland and one at Kent in
England but I don't know if he had an Irish ranch or not. With his money he's
probably got two, at least until Heather Mills gets her cut of his fortune.
