Eddie Van Halen Washed Out

LA Water Main Break Floods Rocker's Yard

Eddie Van Halen is shown during a news conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles...

Tue Dec 11, 9:37 AM EST
It wasn't the homecoming Eddie Van Halen was hoping for.

The 52-year-old guitarist had been in Edmonton, Alberta, where his band, Van Halen, had just performed, when a call came in early Monday morning from Los Angeles fire officials.

A broken water main in Studio City sent thousands of gallons of water flowing down Coldwater Canyon Avenue and into Van Halen's yard.

He arrived home from Canada around noon and surveyed the damage.

"It could have been a lot worse," said Janie Liszewski, Van Halen's publicist and live-in girlfriend.

"The pool is buried in mud, the driveway gate is down and some major landscaping is going to be needed to restore the yard to its former self," Liszewski said.

Fire spokesman Cecil Manresa confirmed Van Halen's was the lone home affected by the water, and said sandbags placed around the house prevented any water from entering inside.

I thought he was on tour with his son and the old band. That can't be all bad, can it?

Well, Ok, he did have a bad day... Should hired a keyboardist!

I was refering to his on stage disaster, yes hiring a keyboardist would have
deffinately helped, or just play without it

Re: Eddie Van Halen Washed Out

I don't really know much about him. I loved the first album and thought it all went straight downhill from there. Van Hager never gelled for me. He married Valerie, had Wolfgang, entered rehab, and physically screwed himself up over the years from what I hear.
That's all I really know, other than he and Val split, and then she lost weight. And that Mark Anthony was not invited back to the band.
Gotta love that out of key screwup though, as they say "Priceless".

Having had the _________ of working around him, and his brother , with Gary Charone, ( post Hagar) the only one I met from the band then who was still a human being was Mr Anothony, Eddie was blitzed for most of the shooting of "Ice Hotel" Even EVH's guitarist pretty much re interated your comment, and only took the job for the resume post, the connections and pay higher than Guitar Center, where EVH Found him .

i know he's been being a dick for quite awhile now........and its weird to see....but this,my home away from home....a guitar forum.......Eddie doesn't quite have the following here,as he does in alot of other forums.....i think those 1st Van Halen albums with Dave were great, for the most part....the first one, even groundbreaking.....i LOVE Eds playing and of course his tone....on the "Dave" era albums.....however....i've saw some Youtube stuff of the last/current tour....where....Ed seems to have forgot much ......and some vids of him being a total jackass(like one i saw where he was @ NAMM).....dunno what happened to him.....sad,really......so....what i do in that situation is....put on VH1......turn the volume wayyyyyyy up.......hit track 2.....AHHHHHHHHHHHH........THATS the way i wanna remember Ed....

I think everybody give him too much prise ... c'mon, he wasn't the one who created the tapping or the one that first used it in electric guitar ... I remembering seeing a video of Ritchie Blackmore doing some, and if my mind isn't fooling me, Gibbons did some minor slow tappings in some of the ZZ Top songs, too ... Eddie was just the one who played it fast ... if I remember correctly flamenco guitarists were using tapping before he was born

Re: Eddie Van Halen Washed Out

I like his earlier stuff, it just seems to me that he's clinging on instead of being inventive. I'm not knocking the guy, in fact I think he's an incredible guitarist whose time may have come to an end. At least he had a great musical career and has influenced many to take up the Axe.

I would imagine being told your are a total guitar god for multiple years would
finally make one's head blow up a bit. I loved original VH, I like VanHargar allot.

I was 1984 show in St. Louis, and it was by far one of the best shows I've ever seen.

He seems to come off as a dick when required, who knows.
I know I wouldnt give 20G for he & Fender's replica of Frankenstein

I love Ed's playing. He was a great inspiration. I don't hang with him so I could care less if he's a dick. I still think he's a genius.

Re: Eddie Van Halen Washed Out

I saw a lot of shows in 1980 and VH was second only to Pink Floyd's The wall tour.
I won some tickets years later to see David Lee Roth with steve Vai. That was the last I saw of anything VH like.

I saw VH, Boston, BOC, Ted Nugent and others at the Texas Jam in Dallas 1979...Great concert! And Eddie rocked the freekin Cotton Bowl like you would not believe...Have you seen his new signature footware?

Re: Eddie Van Halen Washed Out

VH is one of those big bands that I never did get to see live. Too late....forget about it now.

I thought the early stuff was brilliant, and enjoyed bits and pieces of their music throughout all the different eras. I could always find at least one or two songs to connect with on just about every album. Great songwriters in my opinion.

And that Mark Anthony was not invited back to the band.
MA is keeping busy still. He recently did some recording with Neil Zaza and Peter Frampton.

Michael Anthony is in a new band, called "Chickenfoot." It features Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, and Chad Smith (from the Red Hot Chili Peppers).

Read mine, too ... I think he is the most overrated guitarist on earth ... I don't like shred ... but some people say he was the first one to play fast ... and I say to them ... see Jimmy Page solos in the first albums, he was shredding when EVH wasn't even playing guitar
