An Open Letter to the Forum ......

Dear Forum Members ...

It seems that I have unintentionally offended some members here at MLP with some of my recent post's !! The post that seems to have offended some more than others was my posting of Michael Moore material on Veterans Day !! This was completely unintentional as I didn't even know it was Veterans Day until after I posted it !! I meant no disrespect to our country and I most definately did not mean any disrepect to our men and women of the Armed Forces !! They fight and die for our freedom daily and I would not belittle that in any way !!!!! If this offended anyone in our MLP forum .. I APOLOGIZE !!!
As for some of the other things I post , Everything is meant to either entertain or promote conversation !! I'm not looking to offend or anger anyone with my input to this forum !! I realize that some things I post here are quite contraversial but IMO this makes people think about these issues and promotes forum talk on the subject !! I invite any member of the forum who thinks my posting style is offensive to give me a PM !! I'm open to constructive critisism from anyone !!
I only wish the best for this forum and try to do my part to help make it a more interesting place to visit !! I hope I didn't offend anyone in doing so !!!

You've never offended me. None the less, its a pretty classy apology.

Re: An Open Letter to the Forum ......

I'm not offended. I missed the Michael Moore stuff, but find him amusing anyway, so he could not offend me. Some folks just get bunged about things and that's the way they are. Nothing you can do but move on.........

I suppose an apology post is cool. Those who felt threatened or insulted will know how to take it.
Good luck.

It is sad that folks let politics and religion seep into every corner of their lives. I've given up on a lot of friends in recent years because of this.
Let's keep it light and fun here.

Heck, I was going to chime in that I never understood the attraction to Led Zeppelin in the Zep threads, but I held my tongue. OOPS, it's out of the bag now, Yeah, Zep never moved me except to change the radio dial. Weird, eh? They looked cool on stage though

Re: An Open Letter to the Forum ......

Well Bobbo, I'll take that apology for the present and say truce at the time, I cant speak for my other brethern, I can only speak for me There are times I can have a sense of humor, but I think all of us have certain lines and boundries you just cant get past or over and or certain things , people incidents ect, that so irk , or upset us, that forgiveness does not come easy
An example might be , Jane Fonda, to Vietnam era and other vets, Micheal Moore would be another. Just a hint of advice, think two or three times before you post something very controversial, and the day and if you even suspect somebody might in the least be offended, refrain from posting it
Some might take it as having their toes stepped on, some might feel that you are dancing on their feet with golf cleats
:: Rant Off::

Re: An Open Letter to the Forum ......

Well, I'm a veteran, and the son of a veteran. My brothers are veterans, as are my uncles.

My dad and uncles served in WWII and Korea.
My dad, my brothers, and I are Vietnam Era vets.
One brother died in Nam.
Shortly before I received orders for Vietnam, a law was passed that said if a mother lost one son in Nam, that was enough. My orders were changed.

Another brother, you might say, wasn't so lucky. He volunteered to go, wanting to live up to the legacy of our deceased brother, Army Ranger Sergeant Kenneth (Red) Burch. He lived through it. Came back to a country that wasn't particularly appreciative of the sacrifices made by members of the armed services.

He hates Jane Fonda.
I don't.
He hates a lot of things.
He's battling cancer now.
He's carried anger and hate with him for all these years and it's taken it's toll.

Somewhere along the line, I lost the capacity to hate.

Stress is a killer. A grudge is way too heavy to carry.
We live in a strange time in the US of A.

The most vocal of the left/right fringe elements are pulling apart the fabric of American society.

There are a whole bunch of sheep (who don't have a clue what the fuck war is and does to people) that are ready to follow the vocalists on either side of the argument just so they can feel a part of SOMETHING. They'll shout the talking points of either side at the top of their lungs.

Meantime.....life goes on. I choose to enjoy it. I choose to face each day with a smile.

See, although I've lost the capacity for hate, I've gained the gift of tolerance.

Everything in life is a trade off....the time one spends hating others could be better invested in turnip farming....small engine repair.....raising catfish in the bathtub...hell, anything's better than running around like you've got a hot poker up your ass being angry all the time.. IMHO, of course.

...those of you that are offended by my live and let live attitude are very welcome to go fuck yourselves.

I WILL NOT LIVE MY LIFE WITH THE SOLE PURPOSE OF NOT OFFENDING OTHERS!

Bobbo,
I didn't see the threads in question. Maybe I did, I don't know. If I did, they didn't offend me.

You'd have to do something really bad to offend me.

Kick my dog and we're gonna have some serious issues.

Other than that.....

YOU GO BOY!

Re: An Open Letter to the Forum ......

this is the off-topic forum, so even if it did get political and started heated arguments, getting people to think is never a bad thing. Taking offense to an impersonal subject is for people who know they're wrong, but don't want to be reminded.

Re: An Open Letter to the Forum ......

Well said M.T.
The politicos are busy trying to keep us divided Red state/ Blue state stuff. When really we have more in common with each other than they make us believe. Keeping us wary and on edge is only good for getting some of them elected and not good for the health of our nation.

As you say, grudges and hate are strong emotions that take their toll. I've lost a number of friends to this rabid political hate going on these days. I'm glad I can come here and make some new ones. Ones who don't look down on the word tolerance because it means allowing for other's faults. Heck, I played my G&L Tele Deluxe through a SOLID STATE AMP last night, please forgive me fellow LP Tube worshipers

Let's stay cohesive in this forum and not turn into , well , what so many other forums become.

Here is a link to a funny youtube example of what if a board meeting was run like a forum:

Re: An Open Letter to the Forum ......

You've never offended me nor has anyone else offended me on this forum. I thought it was a classy apology to whomever you did Bobbo.

I didn't see the post so I am not sure what your'e referring to but the main thing to keep in mind is to take everything with a grain of salt. I don't like Moore but even if I saw what you posted it wouldn't have offended me. I would have taken another sip of my beer and said "that crazy clown".

Re: An Open Letter to the Forum ......

Takes a certain kind of person to apologize.

If anything(and I say this to all posters), just don't judge folks by their number of posts. I am always wary of who may be hiding behind that screen name.I have been made to look like a "virtual" idiot before(not here). I'm not saying "Guess who I am!" I'm saying some folks have considerable experience, they might just be new to the whole "forum thing".

Well said MT and 59. I'm a veteran of VIETNAM and there seems to be always one in the media that is anti american, Hanoi Jane, Moore etc., Bobbo I didn't catch the posts, but I respect your rights as we all do, and with so much hate anger and depression in the world now let's just concentrate on the music
