re: *** NAMM 2009 *** MLP Scoops the Web (Pictures)

Some info about the 5oth Aniversary LP ... According to people at the show , It has a nylon nut which is more like the 59 original , No Brazilian board !!!(sorry) , Seems the knob placement has been corrected not sure about bridge placement but it is a wireless ABR1 , From eye witness accounts the top carve and neck carve seem to be a good deal different than in the past and a decent step toward 59 specs !!! More info to come ... Stay tuned !!!!!!!!

Re: *** NAMM 2009 *** MLP Scoops the Web (Pictures)

Anyone been to the Marshall booth yet?

EDIT: Here's some info I just saw. Not good.

Marshall MG Series

Marshall’s MG Series has been revamped for 2009 with new features that provide a vast range of quality tonal options. The new MG amps feature two channels on the smaller MG10 and MG15 models, and four channels on the rest of the series. FX models are loaded with digital reverb, chorus, phaser, flanger, and delay effects as well as user-programmable presets. All MG amps have an MP3/line input, emulated headphone out, and frequency damping. Uncompromised Marshall tone at affordable prices!
Expected availability: January, 2009

The 2nd and 4th ones have gorgeous tops on them. Still don't justify the 8k price tag and no Braz...

nothing earth shattering but it's nice to see them getting a more proper Cherry Sunburst.

I hope they carry on with that...

I agree Mikey the color is getting better, still tho for that much coin I'll look elsewhere. However I do have some inside help (not at Gibson) on the cost should I decide I want one, but I dont think I'm even close to wanting one from what I've seen. Lots of better values on other LP's to be had, that even have a better burst flair to them to my liking.
Hope everyone that buy's one tho likes it.

Thanks for the pics guys!
Plastic still looks pink-ish, and i can't understand the one-slot screw for the PG, the '59's that had them were a minority.
Would like to hear about the neck profile, the finish, and if it has a truss rod sheath or not. And if the HW is chrome i can't understand it either.

Re: *** NAMM 2009 *** MLP Scoops the Web (Pictures)

From the pics I've seen the tops don't seem to be any better than other R9s. Big deal... I can buy a wireless ABR and put it on my 03R9 and I'm there and mine has Brazilian. I'd love to see a top in the class of the 03 R9s too, haven't seen it yet. For me, I think Gibson has blown a BIG CHANCE to make the closest 59 burst replica. Looks like a regular Guitar Center R9 to me. I ain't bummed though, should keep the value of my rigs going up.

TC's NAMM thread (pics)

Spent the first half of today at NAMM. After 6 years, its still cool but less exciting anymore. My camera battery doesn’t hold as good a charge as it used to, so I had to take fewer pics, and some didn’t turn out as well (dark) when I started losing juice.

ESP had some cool stuff, most notable are Hetfield’s Iron Cross and the Hamster’s white Ouija.

Fender had a really cool booth and lots of cool stuff. Their theme was old ga station automotive antique hot rod stuff – rockabilly heaven. I don’t like the binding on the new EJ strats, and the necks are still fat on them.

Gibson is still closed to the public, but I managed to get in. Its clear that Dark Phail is the big push. They really didn’t have much of anything exciting. Trini Lopez is back with a trapeze, Joan Jett’s Melody Maker, a new Robby Krieger SG (aged), Jeff Beck’s Ox Blood 54 is back, limited to 150 with the first 50 played and signed by Jeff, an Epi Wilshire made in the Gibson Custom Shop, and a new 59 DOT in both gloss and VOS. Rumors of the SG 61RI being discontinued, and the SG standard getting a makeover are untrue; both were there in their normal current design. There’s also a back shot preview of a new Jimmy Page coming, not idea what the front looks like, but the back had a dark burst look to parts of it.

If I get around to taking more pics, I’ll just add them to the photobucket, so check the link Friday night. I won’t be going over the weekend, too crowded.
